This was a temporary phone for me. I personally hated it. But some useful info for those who still have it; - You cannot access the Internet on the phone without the sidekick data plan from tmobile, which I highly doubt they still offer. - you cannot use the mp3 songs that you put on the phone as ringtones. - (Really helpful one) If the phone says "Waiting for Activation", and won't let you use it, simultaneously press and hold the top left menu button and the letter "L", and your problem should be fixed. If not, your sim is not compatible and the phone must be unlocked.

the t-mobile slide is a sucky ass fone you can't even set an alarm clock for it and like everyone says once your fone dies your information on it dies with the battery. i dont recommend this fone to anyone and yes the gravity is a whole lot better.

Sidekick Slide aka the worst phone Ive been stuck with it for two years and have had sooo many problems. -picture messages dont come if from other server -blacks out and freezes, so when i take out the battery all my conatacts get ereased -zoom on camera never worked -no video -no custom ringtones -bad connection(but thats just a tmobile thing) well i just got sick of it quickly.

Terrible Terrible Terrible phone. Id reccomend a gravity over this because you dont have to pay for the data package and it has a full keyboard. Why would you make a phone that if it losses power you lose everything?!? Goodbye contacts, music, pictures, call log, messages, and everything else, plus you cant bluetooth any other device. The G1 or any blackberry is better than a sidekick simply because of initial price and the price to run it is the same, However you get a whole lot more. Grade F-

not sure about the other companies who use the hiptop, but Telstra is going to stop hiptop(sidekick) connections on 30 september 2009 this could either be because there is no next g capable hiptop coming out or a result of Micro$oft buying out Danger. Not too sure. will do some more digging

of all the sidekicks currently available, this sidekick is the best as a PHONE. the call quality and speaker are great and the best quality compared to the other sidekicks. motorola did that part right, but messed up by making the keys on the kyboard small, slippery plastic! it's kind of hard to type because they are small, cramped, and dont provide good feedback! but i got used to it and can live with it. if the keyboard is your highest priority because messaging is that important to you, you should pick up the lx or 2008. but if you want a good phone to make calls with that comes with sidekick features, the slide is great. i personally think the design is nice. i love the way the phone looks, feels, and performs.

The sidekick slide is a great phone with some decent features. I would not recommend this phone if your looking for games or applications. But as for texting the phone can hold up to 100 messages. Which isn't a lot but its easy to delete them. As for reliability, the phone is strong. I accidently threw my SK Slide. Then shortly after relizing what just happened I looked at it and it suffered almost no damaged what so ever. The phone comes with a speaker that plays music louder than an iPhone which I like. Nothing is slow on it, it has a very fast response to what ever you type in. And the screen slide smoothly. Now for the bad news: DO NOT get this phone if your going to get it with out the Sidekick Plan. The phone will limit you to very little. If someone send you a picture message from another service provider the phone will not load the picture and do a hard reset. Which will delete your contacts and anything saved to the phone. I also do not like where they put the power button. Sometimes you will push it while texting depending on how you hold the phone. Other than that I've had my SK slide for over a year now and would recommend it to anyone who texts a lot.

Your contacts are stored on a server, so when you log back in they'll auto download to your handset. As far as call rates they're about the same as telstra business rates, but hiptop is designed for text, internet and email (they're all free and unlimited) if you're going to use it to make phone calls, get something else on a different plan.

I downloaded the calculator for free. The alarm clock is $3.00 but that is just a one time fee. I haven't had any trouble removing the battery from the phone. Perhaps you're doing it wrong.

I got the phone begining of this year. Its definatly great for attention seeking. It has got a calculator and a stop watch. the calculator is in the bigpond catalogue. It need to be turned off sometimes like any computer because it freezes. sometimes it turns itself off the turns on again and all the memory is gone. but if you wait a while it comes back. I love the phone but It isnt worth 798 the camera sucks no bluetooth video camera etc. Its very strong=] it survives balcony falls.

firstly, a credit to the phone. it looks awsome when you're walking down the street with it in toe. It certainly draws attention, after all, those who stare don't know what's really under the hood of the motorola hiptop. from a personal opinion, i think this phone is seriously overpriced. the cheapest i've seen it is around $559. t-mobile has missed out alot on this phone, although the internet is prompt and the menu is snazzy, there is no alarm (which may i add, is on of the VERY basic features of a phone). The camera is quite shotty for this day and age. 1.3mp but it doesn't seem it. The pictures never seem to focus well, even when the focussing function is used. There is no video camera, so you can't watch videos either. When using the camera, there are no affects, it is very very basic. there is therefore, no video calling. the music on this phone is quite good. the quality is nice. now, back to the overpriced issue. when we think of general phones and what we could get for 6-700 dollars, you would think the phone would have more than just mms, sms, internet, notebook, one game, a very basic camera, calender, qwerty keyboard, average screen and a nice, hip look. generally the bells and whistles on a phone of this price and stature are much more profound, its almost automatic to think that a phone worth such a price would atleast have a 2mp camera, or video. let alone an alarm clock! for summary, its a cool phone, it looks cool, but the features really aren't up to scratch, you can certainly get more bang for your buck elsewhere. motorola took a step downwards with this phone but people buy it because of the plans available; which generally include free messaging, calling and internet can compensate, providing a cool insentive for the social teen. the other motive for buying is because this phone is just so cool. it takes you under a spell when you hold it and instantly makes he owner look like a member of the popular crew.

You can use mp3 files as your ringtones, they have to be 100kb or less in size however. Just put them onto your memory card and go from there. Unsure if you need to make a specific folder or not for them, however.

You can't have photo calling unfortunately. You can't use MP3's from your computer or whatever as ringtones, you have to download it from your service provider, bigpond or whatever. The ringtones are only partial songs, about 30 seconds, but it's a one time fee and without a memory card there is room for about 11 downloaded ringtones, and you can delete them if you want, however if you want the song back you have to re-download it and pay the fee again.

You can't put an MP3 as a ringtone on Hiptops, you have to download them for like $4.95. You have to download the alarm clock and calculator, but the alarm clock is free I'm pretty sure. The calculator is about $3.00 but it's a one time fee.

There is a way to reset it. You have to take it to a Telstra Shop, or a licensed retailer and have them send it away on warranty repairs. It's really the only way, and it'll cost ya. I have a HipTop Slide too, and it's what I had to do when I gave it to my sister with a new plan.

I have had a sidekick 3 and now have a slide. Honestly, the phone over the years hasn't improved. All that's gone on is a few name changes and colors. You still canot view videos, download, or load some pages over the internet. Its still great IF you are strictly a messaging addict.

Just wondering, And if someone knows please let me know. I used to have a Hiptop3, Though it broke (no surprise), so my friend gave me a hiptop slide (or Sidekick Slide, depending on what country your in). As you are probably aware of, the sidekicks have to be set up with a user name, password and email address, Therefor it is still set up with their user name, and there is no way for me to get the password, so i can't use the network. Is there any way i can re set the phone so that i can set it up again with a different user name and password?

I own the hiptop slide for about 2 months now, but the hilarious thing is... WHERE IS DE CALCULATOR function???? And the stopwatch???? There's none... The phone is very simple. so simple that there is no alarm clock function either.... I really hope someone could tell me where is the calculator function??? The camera is 1.3mp, a bit disappointing. I have recieved a couple of hiptops returned due to a software faultwhere the device shuts off. This seems to be the case where you either get a good or a bad phone. at least until they update the firmware on the phone. my suggestions is to try again if you live in Australia and want unlimited text and internet browsing with telstra

as far as i m aware- yes. However in Australia, the hiptop/sidekick plan gives you unlimited data access, so you shouldn't be too conerned if you are using it in Australia. It does need to be connected to the Danger services for you to get the unlimited SMS and data, which is why you are connected to the internet

to change carrier networks- you need to first have the phone unlocked so that any network can use it, then put in the new sim card and request the WAP & MMS profiles from your new service provider. they should be free and sent in a text message where it is a simple matter of pressing the install key

I sell the hiptops and i was also the recent anonymous poster. Waiting on more info from Motorola on the hiptop 3G, but i personally prefer the scarlet slide myself. Motorola also fixed up their battery problem when they released the scarlet slide. now the midnight blue and scarlet hiptops have a battery you have to strugle to insert/remove. The EDGE technology also shines on the slide.it downloads faster than my SE W880i

there is a 3G version of the hiptop coming out soon. Not sure if it is going to have HSDPA or not- but i personally know how popular the 2G model is- so a 3G one is just going to knock peoples socks of when it comes out.

Try wedging a small piece of paper in beside the edge of the battery and the edge of the battery compartment. The problem is caused by the battery being a tiny bit too small - a problem motorola has had since the V3x came out, apparently. All that's happening is the battery is moving away from the contacts and turning the phone off.

I love this phone, but it just has one slight problem that keeps re-occurring even after it has been sent away for repairs and upgraded. Sometimes the phone would shut down and resets itself to a particular date that had my old sent and received msgs which i deleted along time ago, and all my recent msgs would be all lost.

Yeah, it's sales are so low that in Australia it's practically impossible to get one unless you're really lucky or you order in advance. If you don't like the phone, say you don't like the phone. Don't say it's a crap device because T-mobile can't sell it, especially considering that in at least one country it's landed, it's sold out constantly and consistently. There are more places in the world than just America, you know. I know that might be a complete shock to your system but it's the reality of the matter.

I also work at Fone Zone and it only comes with a 12 month warranty not a 2 year one. And the warranty is only a repair warranty not a swap over one. Hence why we offer the ESP express.

I hate this phone alot, I have it atm, and it is a pain to use. The volume is really low when you talk on the phone, on the receiving end, the other person have a hard time hearing you clearly. The phone always say "Sim Card Error" and resets your phone alot the only good thing about this phone is the fast texting. Can't wait till I get my LG Secret!!! This phone is gabbage from my experiences with it.

Just a couple of points from reading the reviews and questions about the SKS. First thing is the battery life. If you think it is bad, switch the internet on and have it on permanently on wahtever device you are using, constantly searching for new emails and checking your instant messaging accounts and see how long your battery lasts! I bet it wont be more than 4hrs never mind 156 hrs!!!! Secondly, for the people that are trying to bluetooth files. WHY?????? Bluetooth at a push, travels 100 metres. An e-mail travels around the world! You are using a PC in a handset and has full access to e-mail. Why not E-mail it??? It makes sense! Or am i being silly?

This phone is a really nice phone and it mobilizes the creativity of modern art towards mobile phones. It�s a good gift for your young teenagers and may even help them in school! It also helps you to do multiple things at a go. The only problem is it only comes in blue which I find unattractive to some ladies.

I bought the Motorola Slide last year on the plan. Since then I have canceled the contract and thank god I did. The phone won't send files via bluetooth, I had to get the first handset replaced because it kept resetting itself and all in all just a massive disappointment. I was sucked in by this phone and thought, wow, what a great phone, it looks so great. It may look great but can't do half the things a phone half its price can do. This is just a warning to all those out there thinking about getting this phone, think long and hard about it so that you don't get stuck in the same position that I did!!

My friend purchased this phone on a plan. She likes using it and I admit, it's a step up from the sk3. It's a pity that so many users have been experiencing mechanical faults with the handset, like its habit of restarting and not registering the memory for an extended period of time after it's switched back on.

The mp3 player works great on this phone and it does support an 8gb memory card. It just shows on the phones memory as a 4gb card but you can use all 8gb.

You can tell in55 has never owned a sidekick before by the things he's saying. I can download pages on a slides browser in under 2 seconds with msn, yahoo and myspace all open at the same time. This phone loves to multitask.

both the slide and the lx are the same the only dif is that the screan is bigger it has flash on it the slide is the same size as lx lx is supposed to be smaller but is not and the ball lights up that would be cool on the slide tho so why pay $400 when you can pay $300 but the only thing both are missing is video messaging and the face plates or hot not the jell ones other than that i like the slide i hope motorola comes out with the slide 2 with dif colors other than purple i guess thats purple and oh yea people talking about its hard to text or whatever complaining about the keyboard is hard to use when its not you just got to get use to it like any other phone

I've never had any problems with mine and I've had mine a month now. I don't now how your friends lost the side piece as its all 1 piece that goes right around the phone. And there's been nothing with the trackball for me.

I'm nineteen years of age. So I have alot of friends from the younger generation. The point I am getting at is, I have alot of friends/know alot of people who have this particular phone. And its pretty much useless. Theres always a problem with it. One of my friends lost the side pannels of her phone after about a month. Another constantly has issues with the ball. Its just a waste of time, and money. I suggest finding a phone with similar functions, that you require. Perhaps not a motorola..

@ntse This phone may not have what some nokia and se have but its the best at what it was designed for in the 1st place and that's a known fact. It was designed for messaging. That's why you can talk on windows msn live and yahoo chat (both have been built in and in american aim aswell). Its the only phone on the market that has myspace built into it. the phone lets you know when someone has sent you a comment as well as comments on your pictures or blogs or when they have added a new blog. Then there's real time email so you get it as soon as its sent and the phone tells you of that. Then there's the standard txt and mms as well as the net. But. You can do all this at the same time. You can be talking on both msn and yahoo while sending someone a comment on myspace then click over and send an email or txt while you look at stuff on the net. You can't do that on any nokia or se. Oh and the world record for fastest txt sent was on 1 of these phones.

No you can't use your mp3s as a ringtone but that's the phone companys fault not motorola. They want you to buy the tones off them but I think there's a mod so you can aswell as a few other mods. I don't use this as a phone as I have another phone for that. I just use mine for msn. Email and txting because there's no other phone that does it as good as this 1 as the slide was built for it. As where all the other sidekick phones.

I wish people would stop comparing this phone to a pocket pc like an I-mate. its never tried to be 1. If you look at this as a phone and not a pocket pc you would see that the specs are good. Even if they did get the screen size wrong and a couple of other things. I think it has the biggest screen out of any motorola. Cept im not sure about the latest razrs.

Vaui or whatever you nams is. They messed up on the specs big time. It doesn't weigh that much and when you pick up the n95 8gb and the hiptop at the same time the n95 is heavier. The screen is a 2.4inch qvga screen. And you can have multiple conversions going on msn live at the same time and switch back and forth using buttons for each person as well as being on yahoo and surfing the web sending email and txt all at the same time without any slow down. The msn function on the n95 is crap because of the tiny keypad. For the price you pay for this phone its a lot better than a lot of other phones that are more expensive. And for what you pay for the n95 there's a lot that goes wrong with it. Now im not saying that this phone is as good as the n95. I know it isn't and id be stupid to say it is but there's not many phones out that can do what I said this can.

I find that the people that say that this is a bad phone don't even own 1 and are just going by what the specs say. Which in some places are wrong. Like the display for 1. It isn't a50mm TFT screen its a 60mm (2.4)qvga screen. And it does have hscsd. Its as thin as a nokia n95 but weighs less than the nokia.

I found that the 1.3mp camera is clearer than the 2mp cameras found on the nokias. I bought a slide for the simple fact that i am on msn a lot so the slide is perfect for that. A friend has a nokia n95 and it always seems to have something wrong with it. Sometimes bigger isn't always better. Oh and honestly I can't tell the difference in speed 3g to edge and in australa 3g isn't available everywhere yet anyway.

I bought a slide last week in australia and have read a lot of reviews about it and most of the bad reviews are wrong. The keyboard does take a bit to get used to but its easy after a little while. The camera might as well be 2mp coz the pictures are just as clear as a nokias 2mp camera. Its may not be 3g but I've compared it side by side to a nokia n95 downloading the same site and the slide was faster. The battery last about 8hours with heavy net and msn use. They have also fixed any faults and whoever said that the ball sticks is wrong. I would recommend this phone to anyone.

The slide is actually not bad despite reviews. I have been a dedicated sidekick user for one reason THE EASE OF USE!! It is so easy to type and do it fast. I have owned the sidekick 1, 2, 3 and LX and decided to get the slide today. I like the features and the camera is much better than that of the LX or other sidekicks. The plan kicks ass though! Compare Verizon or AT&T with 300 minutes unlimited nights, weekends, my 5 faves, unlimited txt and picture text, aim, msn, yahoo, web, email for only like $50-60. The sidekick plan(which is unlimited data for everything except calls is $20 a month, which includes unlimited text, verizon and at&t dont come close to this price)

it wasn't a software glitch, the battery contacts were too short so when you slide it if it is too hard it disconnects the battery. this phone amazing #1!

This phone really isn't for a regular sidekick user. When the phone first appeared there was a software glitch where the phone would reset when sliding closed. This fault has yet to be fixed with the second releasing of the phone. The key pad is very tricky to get use to, even though it is full qwerty. The buttons are round so there is a little complication there. Go for the sidekick LX. It is well worth the money.

the sidekick/hiptops cant really be compared to other phones. reason being is the type of plan they are on. in australia it is sold through telstra on the hiptop plan where internet/sms/email/im is unlimited and "free". so the entire point of this device is not to be a standard phone but actually a thing for teens to be on the net/msn/myspace etc all day. so the features are pretty damn average but the point and plan is incredible so in the end its a pretty good package....$30 a month for unlimited internet/sms/mms is pretty good.

danger doesnt make sidekicks. they like program the apps and stuff. It is also a server to run the sidekicks. motorola makes the sidekick slide while Sharp makes the regular sidekicks like the LX, 3 and iD.

I only know 1 person at my entire high school with the Slide. Everyone went for the LX instead. No, there is no 3G or Wi-Fi. Pretty basic phone. But I think this one is easier to text on than the LX, or any of the other Sidekicks.
