  • The only problem for me is the main camera thats can't focus, but recently the battery drain quite fast. Despite its normal thing that battery would degrade after 2.5 yrs or so, the unlucky thing is that we can't find genuine battery replacement anywhere (if anybody hv info please let me know). Btw I'm using official Lineage OS (v15.1) which fairly stable and significantly lighter than the original.

  • I have the Mi 5 & Mi 5s Plus. Very problematic. Xiaomi is strictly not recommended in my humble opinion.

  • This phone is suck since updated to miui 9 and 10. They need deleting thermals to be powerfull smartphone.

  • Well, I have the phone. There is some throttling when charging but otherwise, it fine. I can split screen a demanding game (Dissidis Final Fantasy Opera Omnia) and YouTube and the phone can handle it just fine. I'd recommend a newer model like the Mi 8 though

  • No it's not. On upcoming year(s) gaming will be more demanding. This phone do handling better than mediocre specs but it's not the best choice to handle heavy gaming usages. You need to find phone with better chipset & better batt capacity.

  • Global stable Oreo update was coming to my phone on Yest. Around 1.6GiB. At first it lags like crazy however after clearing the caches everything looks normal.

  • Just git MIUI 10. Everything became uglier. The fonts in particular.

  • Official Global ROM with MIUI9 is still Android 7.0. But the MIUI10 on the beta version already is Android 8.0, so just need to wait for the update. At least it will officially updated to Android 8.0.

  • I've compared the screen of Mi 5s Plus vs Redmi Note 5 Sammy A6. Mi 5s Plus screen beat both phones by miles. Mine in a good condition after a year or two, however the main camera can't focus. Anybody know the link for replacement?

By this moment, counting also the grey import, Xiaomi Mi 5s Plus is one of the most affordable smartphone with SD821 (second is HTC U Ultra) , but it's official ROM stuck at Android 7.0, probably won't get upgrade to Android 8.0, same fate as Mi 5s, however the original Mi5 do get Android 8.0. Then this Mi 5s Plus' sibling, Mi Note 2, and Mi Mix also get Android 8.0. If strictly based on value, depend on region too, the currently launched Mi8 is actually much cheaper than Mi 5s Plus launching price last time, and now same price as Mi Mix, Mi Mix 2, and Mi Note 2. So, getting the Mi8 will be the no brainer choice. At my country, Mi8 undercut Oneplus 6 by very huge price different. Of course, plenty of choice here, there is a killer same pricing ASUS Zenfone 5z and also Honor brand smartphones.

  • after using 1 year, and almost 2 years my phone still working normally. almost everyday using my phone for gaming (semi-hardcore), the problem is always same, overheat. but overall is really good. about camera, nothing special. but if you love about monochrome fotography, i suggest this phone.

  • Mi 5s plus have most slow update rollout while redmi note 4 have highest. Mi 5s Plus also have best performance due to using 2016's flagship CPU and GPU, Snapdragon 821 / Adreno 530, but due to Xiaomi policy,gaming performance is considerably capped to prevent overheating, but normal multitasking is a breeze, can compete with current 2018 flagships. Samsung, cant say, as i am not a fan of those boring Samsung UI, also overpriced compared to its spec As Mi Max 2,actually Mi Max 1 is better in terms of performance, better GPU. p Mi 5s Plus price also highest among all phones u mention

  • I have MI 5s plus and my wife has MI Note 2, i admire mi note 2 for its curve and the band 28(700) for the international version, right now am looking for where to get the screen. Aside the curvenes, small at hand compare with MI 5s plus and the network bands, i think Mi 5s plus is better. Better battery, better camera, more roughed than MI Note 2.

  • well i had same problem, after more than 1 year use...screen has yellowish tint at bottonm of screen...perhaps screen glue overheat, disappear when cooling down about battery yes,its sign of degraded battery,mine also. planned to order battery online

  • Bro, download the Miui forum apk. The low sound in earphones is a bug in miui9 global stable. It should be fixed by the next update.

  • If you're talking about performance, this phone is way above those phones. You can check the xiaomi mi 5s if you're into camera. It has a better sensor, but still has no OIS. The only difference is that the plus has bigger battery, higher clock speed 821 chip, and bigger screen (obviously).

  • The phone is very good, responsive, and fast, but the camera is not good at all. the quality of the pictures is very bad for a phone that suppose to be one of the flagship phones in the range. My low cost Lenovo phone takes much much better pictures than the Mi5s. Very disappointed.

  • Yes. Just click on the stereo mode, take picture. And look at the preview. Click the stereo mode again and tap on the focus area as you wish. Adjust the focus at the bottom I usually use F.2.0). The area which u did not tap will be blur

  • Look for the ported Google Camera on xda. Try it out on your 5s Plus. Makes a hell of a difference in photo quality!

  • For a device still running Android 6 the price should be reasonable. That gallery post processing doesn't qualify as bokeh. The back camera/s are awful, they could have improved the camera software till now (since the device was launched a year ago) but didn't and I doubt they will improve it in the future.

  • No need to wait. I works really good, at least for still images. HDR+ is much better than MIUI Camera HDR or Stereo Mode. Im using HDR+ all the time, even when taking daylight stills.   • Still photos is vastly improved using the ported Google Camera with HDR+. However, you need Android 7 in order to install the google camera apk. For me it works on both MIUI 9 Beta (Xiaomi EU rom) and Lineage OS. Much improved pictures in low light.

  • FAT32 does not support more than 4GB file size (doesn't matter which file type or OS) use ext2,ext3 or ext4 file format and check . your phone should support

  • Depending on price, the 4gb RAM version goes for 300$ right now and I'd say it's worth those 300 bucks. The SD821 inside is Qualcomm's "last year's flagship SOC" but still way more powerful than any new or old SD4XX or SD6XX you can find on similar priced phones BUT the camera is awful (forgot about low or moderate light pictures) and it's still running Android 6 and nobody knows when it will be finally upgraded to Nougat(MIUI 9 based on Nougat for global users seems months away).

  • I use Waze all the time and haven't encountered any problems. One thing though, sometimes 'first fix' takes a little longer than expected (~ 1 min) but after that (again only happens sometimes) all good with 8-14 satellites in use and 3-4m accuracy.

  • Tested for you, video file, especial MKV file with size more than 4GB can be copied into the internal memory. Guess Xiaomi's MIUI only doesn't support large file (exFAT/NTFS) for Micro SD card, but their internal memory do support storing larger size file.

I just found out this limitation on my Micro SD card where in FAT32, I cannot store file over 4GB. Advises are formatting to exFAT or NTFS, but neither of the format can be supported by my phone.

  • I have tested PPSSPP, football manager 2017 and Real Racing 3. Never exceed 50C, average at 40C. Normal operation all maintain at 35C except YouTube, which may over 40C.

  • if only for basic social media, with no overheat issue, Mi5 is already more than sufficient. All Mi5 series do not have any overheat issue even when do heavy gaming. me myself using mi 5s plus, best value phone so far.

  • Demand for storage is increasing since cameras store pics taking space up to 5-8 Mbs per pic. My 32Gb Samsung gets filled after 1-2 Months just with pics. So 64-128 GB storage demands perfectly makes sense.

  • Are you sure you own a Mi 5s Plus? 1. 64gb and 128gb is more than enough for normal usage unless you want to store porn. Clearly, you should have done some research before buying since your demand on storage is quite specific. 2. OTG doesn't work means it's either your usb or OTG port got problem. 3. Only 1 sim can be activate for data, that's how it work for all the phones right now. However, call in/out is activated for both sim at the same time. Unless you are a noob that don't understand how it works. 4. How many phones at this price point take good photos in low light? Even Zenfone 3, OnePlus 3 and Zuk Z2 Pro couldn't do that. Again, you should have done some research before buying since your demand on photo capability is quite specific. No phone is free of problems. Your mistake is not able to understand the phone that you are going to buy.

  • other than camera i find nothing of ur complain relevant. Most phones do allow u to use 2sims together including this, tried myself. it cant call or use lte on both network is something u cant change for now, even for samsung phones. Storage option is already stated its ur own fault that you didnt check it out. As for otg, is largely irrelevant today but i tried it out myself seems working for me as far as i'm concerned. and if ur referring to listening to music using usb-c u need to know that not all usb c supports audio output and this one has a headphone jack. so dun complain about a phone you got for ard 300~400 dollars. If you want real value for money then u should do more research and spend more and get a samsung/apple/lg/or even oneplus

  • Putting sim card is dumb & funny. Miss sd card. As a whole, phone is superb. Performance fast & nice. Processor, os & chips perfect! No problems encountered. Highly recommended.

  • Hi I am using mi max it doesn't get heat up I am playing heavy graphics game like dawn of titans which I tried iPhone 6, HTC 10, lg g4, Samsung s6 edge & Alcatel idol4 All these phone get heat up but xiaomi mi max is best phone for playing games its doesn't get heat and the battery is good.if one phone is bad doesn't mean all the phone are same .

  • I decided to buy Mi5s Plus cuz MI6 is totally crapped for me, no 3.5mm jack, complete glass body (use it like a baby right), 5.15" screen (this is not 2012 man) and of course, we dont know much about its camera and battery, maybe good maybe bad, it's advertisement who knows? I never throw my money through the windows like this, I will go for the most suitable one for me.

  • Please don't buy Xiaomi phones. I've been using Mi4i for one and half years. While the processor speed, display and camera is very good, the phone heats up too much. The speaker quality is very poor. But the main CON is that every time I talk on the phone for 3 mins or more, I start getting pain in my ear and neck. The phone is a health hazard. Strongly recommend that you stay away from it.

  • You can just choose between Asus Zenfone 3 Deluxe ZS570KL or MI 5S Plus. Zenfone is better though. but when it comes to specs these 2 devices competes the TOP Spot. IPHONE AND SHIT SAMSUNG are just Overpriced but not well designed and Lower Specs. You're paying the brand my friends. When you a phone look at the specs not the brand.

  • I've been using thia fone for about 4 months now,here's my honest review -the phone is fast and responsive. there are times that some of my apps (like fb) hangs. Just updated the apps and everything works fine -battery. Perfect. Whole day connected to my data and doing some browsing and music and still kickin on the 2nd day. -screen. no issues yet. all good and fine. you just have to set the brightness high if you're outside under the sun. -playing hardcore games is fast. I usually play nba 2k17 but sometimes, I feel the lag, maybe because of ram management( i owned 6gb of ram). You just need to close all open apps in the background and it is all good.

Every phone has its own pros and cos though the only thing holding me back from this is Xiaomi's UI, and the only thing holding me back from the honor note 8 is the gpu as i have read some bad reviews.   • -> Not fully.The main problem (on most Chinese brands models not meant for the EMEA market.why would they include bands that are not used in the target market) is the lack of band 20(meaning FDD 800). In Europe this is a major disadvantage mostly for the inhabitants of rural areas as B20 is generally used in those areas because it can cover larger areas compared with higher frequency brands that cover less​ but can provide higher speed. So you will have 4G in some​ places and in other places that are covered with the missing bands it will drop to 3G. It's a software limitation,the SOC can handle almost all the bands used in the world. Is 3G that bad in the UK or are you interested in VoLTE? Personnel curiosity

  • There is and its the msm8996pro, that is use by this phone and one plus 3t, there are four variants of sd 821,the other was the combination of cores that you mention. As far as I know there is msm8996, msm8996ab, I forgot the name of the other one. Hope it helps.

  • Yep,I understand what you mean. I was hoping for mi 5s plus, mi note 2, mi mix launches in India too, but it's not that xiaomi is dumping low end phones.it's the market in India. Budget phones with features are what most people look for. Few few are willing to spend more than a quarter of a lakh for a phone. Redmi note 3 recorded highest shipment in history for a reason. Low price, good features. If you want a really premium phone, you got to pay for it. I'm sure you would, but can't say for the majority of millions who look only for budget ones. You still can buy any xiaomi phone you want though. Pay little extra (sometimes none) for duty and import it from online shops.

Mi5s siblings,Mi Mix,Mi note2 are premium offerings with 25k and upwards. these have different intended uses. The chunk of handsets sold during Diwali sale are redmi 3 series,the mid range and lower mid range offering. Even Mi 5 was on offer,but how many bought that???there are people who complain about absence of FM tuner.but that is not what a flagship is meant for. This reflects the mindsets of buyers. Every company has market research team and they understand the suitability.

Dual cameras, a beautiful design, slim bezels, top-level specs, HAS AN AUDIO JACK (I hope, since I don't see a reason why one wouldn't be included), a nice battery, and a big 1080p display. Not expensive. This phone is going to be so popular. I really hope Xiaomi sees this success and makes other amazing phones.

  • Yup, the aperture is narrow but check out the pixel size. They're even greater than in Galaxy S7 camera, and that also enhances low light performance. But the lack of OIS is not a good news for me... Anyway, i can't wait to see this camera setup in action ^^ And the lack of microsd is rather obvious in high-end Mi series. But would you really miss it with OTG and 128GB onboard?

  • everything looks great. except the aperture.... xiaomi is the only smartphone manufacturer who went backwards in terms of aperture.... mi4 had f/1.8 which was really great in low light and long exposure shots.... i dont understand why they are using aperture which is narrower than their own 2 year old flagship. and micro sd card will make this a complete smartphone. i really hope they change their minds about it in the future.

  • Thank you Xiaomi for putting 1080p resolution. Practically higher resolution is not needed, it just increases battery usage without any visual difference. And what about ultrasonic sensor, ultrasonic devices in medicine is dangerous for healt, what about these ultrasonic sensors?

  • There is no ultrasonic fingerprint under screen(Mi 5s plus). Only Mi 5S have ultrasonic fingerprint under screen

  • I agree with Hugo, but this is now a "me too phone" now that 6gig, low rez, meh battery phones are out there. If he wanted to kick ass, he should have gone 4000+mAh,or 8gigs, or higher resolution. People pay more attention to specs than to body colors (especially on the forums they announce this stuff) Once new market countries reach saturation, it's going to get a lot more competitive.
