In have been using huis phone for quote soms time nog, in bought it just when it dissappeared from the market and got unother phone just now. The problemen with this phone is that the ram is full when you the slightest thing on it. And dare to install messenger and you can forget it, continiously freezing or lagging or just dont starting up the apps you want to. But when you start up and you have (almost) empty ram, you can run some suprisingly large apps, like wot blitz, but not very long because the battery isnt up to the job and gets hot very quickly. Also at low battery i have found the phone to run significantly slower. That probablt is because the most beautiful screen i have ever seen, with a ridiculous amount of pixel density. Even though the occasional hiccup, i still loved this phone just because the screen looks astonishing.

I've got this phone since december 2012 and I'm not planning to switch it with another anytime soon (and we are already in mid march 2015 ) simply because it is great. Does his job flawlesly, still has solid good mid range specifications ( 3 years now after it was announced ) and also had a very attractive price tag. Not to mention his great design. Imo it is one of the best smartphones ever in terms of specifications/price.

I'm in the same case as you... I need to change this phone, but i've been using it for 2 years and i never encountered any problem with it ! (or yes, maybe one, the battery life was drastically short... Too bad :/) So I think the next one will be a G2 mini, which has approximately the same spec (moreover, the same dismensions, which is pretty rare in nowadays..). What do you think of this one ? Did you find yours ?

It'a very nice phone, the design is very stylish, looks both modern and serious. Have had it for 2 years and no serious problems. After 2 years the silver paint from the bottom started to peel off, but I haven't been really careful with it :) Now looking for something more performant.

So, very happy user for nearly 2 years now - but it's time for an upgrade. Question is : what to buy next ? The S500 is a great size, I don't really want to go over 5" screen size, would like a >8MP camera and want something that feels like a phone and looks good - i.e. premium build quality and design. Handled a Galaxy Alpha in store today, looks fantastic but feels like a childs toy. Z3 compact is better from a build quality perspective but I don't like the design. Ideas ? The choice seems to be so bad that I'm even thinking Lumia at this point :-P

great until you use it for 6 months, then the charger port breaks, it wont charge, wont hold charge, slows to a near halt and runs out of memory filled by mysterious unknown and invisible things that take up space and memory but dont exist. i have no memory and nothing on my phone, ive deleted photos, music, messages and no more memory on my phone. how do i sum up the s500 in one word, pathetic.

My personal experience with S500: - good: very nice design and finish, excelent screen quality, reasonably fast and responsive - gps accuracy at 5-10 meters usually - lasts a maximum of 3 days on battery with low usage, one day or less with intensive use - bad and annoying and life consuming: very poor signal (gsm and wifi), lots! of disconnections from networks (gsm and wifi), frequently keeps on switching between 2g/3g/3.5g (that means you can't actually connect and use the networks), usually 2-4% but sometimes even 10% time without signal (well, while S500 is disconnected from gsm network, there is plenty of signal... for every other mobile phone nearby), tricky to get signal back (disconnect & reconnect network, change manually between 2g & 3g and so on...), low image quality (for 8 megapixels) - don't know about sound, video player or else - conclusion: nice gadget, poor phone, DON'T BUY unless you want to piss yourself off. I have this phone for 2 months and it's PERFECT, no issue with it. Jelly Bean works perfect and fast, great performance in games. I had a to choose between this and "Samsung S2 plus", glad and VERY HAPPY I choose "Acer S500", it outruns S2 plus by far. You wont regret having this phone!!! Good Job Acer, BRAVO!!!!

Since the official jelly bean update, the phone runs much smoother, but the phone shuts down at 10-15% battery. When I try to boot again, I can't, indicating the battery is empty. Anyone with the same problem?

if you charge directly form your computer USB it will charge with the same current that you charge form that charger (0,5 Ah) because the usb output supplies the 500 mAh (0,5 Ah) so is the same thing

very good phone. poor batery life. less than 12 h with wifi and frequent use of aplications. advice: the display eats 50% of the battery life. set the light to min. and life gets longer.(not a good idea in daylight thow). very good video, excelent even in poor light. not so good pictures in electric light. good sound. very good screen and resolution. lots of aplications for free. not the quickest or intuitive when used for calls. excelent for messaging. you can say the messege and it will write it for you. more smart than phone, at a great price, RECCOMENDED. how can I get a better battery?

Overall is a great phone at a reasonable price for thos who dont want to spend too much but still use and enjoy a smartphone with decent configuration. Had it for 2 months and worked great. Battery life a little short. I am not using it for games, music so couldnt really review these functionality. I have a custom Rooted Jelly Bean 4.1.2 ROM and I have removed the buttons from the screen. The phone can show it's teeth now. Battery lasts for 2 days with normal use (15-20 calls, 30-40 min WiFi per day). If you wanna play all day go buy the M-P 3200mAh battery but its gonna get fat.

Great specs but the overall experience is terrible,the battery doesn't lasts not even a entire day,the home/back/menu buttons are contained in the screen and take up unnecessary space and interfere with games, no firmware support for this phone and easy to break,can't find any decent spare parts or accessories for it. that update was some stability update, but the os still have some bugs; here is a link with the easiest way to unlock you phone for free, read carefully what you should do not to lose your warranty ...also orange.ro replys that in aprox 2-3 weeks we can receive jelly bean :) and that will be great...

I'm back with a feedback. After this firmware update, i see nothing changed, the quadrant standard edition benchmark is still ~5400points, so no performance tweak here. the bug and menu lag i cannot say, bcs i dont got any. i use purchased adw launcher so everything is as smooth as it can get. games are also at the same performance level as before update. i will be back with info if i notice some real changes. got this phone 14 days. i use it almost for everything . its price quality good. just few negatif point. 1: the fm radio reception is worthless has trouble finding good signal very much noise. 2:the gps signal works fine but not perfect. its just not accurate within 100 meter. 3: battery time is very limited ( i use it a lot ) 4: the 8mp camera photos look like 5mp photos. very much blur in the picture. further its a great phone. works fast. and is stable. if i had to choose again i wouldnt buy it again. and pay a little more for a appliance tha work great overal. if you dont mind these minors than buy it. if you do mind it try it before you buy it

There is no problem because the producer decided this "feature". The SD card is only available as a storage unit, instead of actual memory that could be used to install stuff. There are however options available to install additional memory that can be used to install apps, if u accept to root your phone.

In Romania this phone vas sold out more than once. I am using it for 5 days now and i like to format the battery. So, now it is at 41% from 100% 23 ores ago. I understand, the screen is not amoled(the former was Galaxy S1) and the higher resolution drains the battery even more. But i am using this phone as a gadget, at list i intend to do so and a cheaper phone if i go somewhere where the s500 is at risk of breaking so i am never too far from a car recharger or wall recharger. It lasts 1 day with normal(normal for me) use, 3-5 ores with intensive game play. 2 days for extended use, power saving option enabled. BTW i got 5400 flat on quadrant standard with original rom, no overclock so i think with 4.1 or 4.2 the score should be 4-600 points higher(i have seen this difference on other phones). My friend has a note 2 and he got ~6800(quad core at 1.6Ghz). S500 has no lag but when rotating the screen there is a disturbing time delay. As it's not as instant as galaxy s1. Also the music player is uninteresting. With plus and minuses it's a good phone for little money. Got it at contract 15euro for almost 10 euro. So 10 euro for a 200 euro phone sounds ok since i got the s1 at 155 euro at a 18 euro contract around 2 years ago. I would like for anyone who has one to send mails to acer asking for android 4.2 update as soon as possible and for fixes in sound quality, player and camera quality. Also the phone calling interface could be more fancy, like Samsung's. Also can acer release a battery update to ~1700-2000mah? I don't care if the thickness grows by 1-2 mm as long as i can use this phone 2 full days with no problem and 3 days with moderate use.

I can say it's very high end among S500, who is going to be right ? Even in gsmarena's review, the touchscreen is reflected more green. It depends, it can be purple or black. This shows that he talks bs, probably has a S2 and is upset that a cheaper phone is crushing his "smartphone".

Yakker, the French website lesnumeriques tested the display more than most do. The contrast on the Acer is as high as the iPhone 5's display and higher than the 4S. The color accuracy is better than on the iPhone 5 (delta E is 2,8 on the Acer, 3,4 on the iPhone 5) and the display is sharper. The iPhone 5 has got the edge on brightness though.

maybe the firmware is the problem, in orange ro the firmware for official android ics 4.0.4 is customized by orange ro, look at the firware, my firmware is named Acer_AV043_QV153611_S500_1.022.00_EMEA_ORGROD also from orange ro, maybe soon an update to jelly bean will fix the main problems with an better firmware, in other countries it has another firmware and works better, maybe with upcoming jelly bean official update orange will improve the issues.

All the devices send in Romania in Orange network for just"199 eur" are from a low range of this product .Many users complain that their phone have one or many issues like dead pixels, battery drains much quicker or the phone shut down unexpected and to be powered you must getout the battery. Also if you look at the video from release ceremony" the acer had a blue type screen not green like the romnania products. Cheers Romania.

Just bought for free (with a contract) from Orange Romania. Waiting on it to arrive. i chose it over the SGS3 mini because it has far inferior specs and it was.. well 90 euro pricier (with the same contract). I am sure it will be great for what i paid. I am giving it to my GF whom is not a heavy user... I am sure the battery will last 24-48 hours for her :D.

I have this phone 3 days after it's arrival in orange shop Romania. It's a very good phone for 199 euros. let's see now: - excellent screen, even the brightness in direct sun light and snow in the background - has no lag because of the dual core 1.5GHz - video memory is shared from 1gb RAM so that means i have a total of 750 mb RAM but still good, never used more then 670 - dolby could use an upgrade - speaker volume is low in medium noise enviroment - internal speaker does a very good job - noise cancellation actually works - it could use a better battery, it holds about 1 day at most for me when i'm playing games (even solitaire) and browse a little, 2 days max with just a few phone calls and messages - audio headset can be improved with downloadable programs - the original launcher consumes A LOT of battery and resources so i'm using 360 launcher and it's a whole new experience - the camera is good, great in video capture, needs improvement in photos - the design is excellent and the hands on feel - the rest depends on the operating system witch can be easily modified

Listen bro, it's really a good phone and all, but try spreading your wings a little less. IPS is a great display, but there's yet to come another phone to have the brightness-contrast-saturation balance as the iPhone 5. The iPhone screen is so far away, that you barely can compare the two products. But the Acer is a really nice phone 'though.

The battery sucks ! I have one , the phone is great but the battery really sucks. I can't understand why Acer made this phone with this horrible battery. Acer Cloudmobile come with 4.3 HD , 1 GB RAM , 1,5 GHz Dual-Core , the Battery can't support the display which is better than S2 in my opinion. Acer CloudMobile S500 without Battery - 9.5/10. Acer CloudMobile S500 with Battery - 5.5/10. Why 5.5 ? Because doesn't metter if you have a great phone if you can't use. Have a nice day !

Honnestl, i think that this is a great phone, and i'm saying this because in my country(romania) is just 199Euros without contract. Secondly, i think that the ips is a briliant display,the 1.5Ghz dual-core procesor can easily load anything, 8 gigs+the extra 32 card slot is a great deal, considering that some phnes on the market have under 16gigs, and no card slot. Even if i love wp, i would happily change my lumia for this device. The only downside is the glass, which is just a reggular glass, and not the Gorilla-glass, so it's not verry resistant.

This phone has the same specs like Sony Xperia T but at a much better price.In Romania is 899 RON(199 EURO)The display is wonderfull and with a little bit hack it can be just as good as Xperia T.Bravia engine is a software processing image engine...so it can be installed on Acer Cloud Mobile easily.Also,not mentioned here,is that this phone cames with a gyroscope installed.Overall is tiny little beast at an affordable price!

Really good phone. Nice performance with ICS, the display is wonderful. Battery life is actually comparable to S3 or iPhone5. It lasts a day without any problems while playing games, internet on and browsing (now do not expect that if you use it non-stop, but decent usage like 2-3 hours of games, 1 hour of web browsing and 1 hour phone calls it lasts one day - personal experience, only after 4 full charges, when the battery hasn't even reached it's full performance). Design is really nice, and the phone feels really well built. At this price (at least with contract in Romania), it beats any other phone in the same price category and it even competes with more pricey phones like S2, HTC etc. It heats up a bit in 3d games, but to be fair, no more than my old Galaxy phone. I really recommend it, good price and really good performance.

i have this phone for a few days now. i want to say that i am very pleased with it. it's far more good looking than the pictures, the display is just awesome(try some hd videos....stunning), battery-1.5 days with moderate use and juice defender running.I have not encountered any problem with the sound. It rings pretty loud and i can hear/be heard very well while in a call. it doesn't have any lag. i only have one problem. i mounted the sd card, i can see the music on my sd card but i can't see my pics and videos on it...

The phone it's awesome, everything works very well, the battery, i checked right now, after 2 day 19 hours and 48 minutes - 19%, calls 86 minutes, google play music 2 hours and 43 minutes, screen 2hours and 45min and chrome 44minutes. It's awesome, and i buy'it for 1 euro and 2 year contract ( 18 euro) in Romania, Orange. Waiting the root and custom roms.

The device is as good as specifications make you think it is. Nothing more, nothing less. The not so good part about it is the camera, with not so good details, especially when light is weak. On the other hand, OS smoothness is perfect, screen is very good, and the hands-on feel is nice. I bought it with ~60E from local Orange dealer and I'd say it's a great bargain! Bless!

As far as I know, there is no mobile phone on the market that has touch sensitive volume controls. The Acer S500 has physical buttons on the right upper side for volume control (and the buttons are very well made, by the way!). Older android devices had touch sensitive buttons on the lower part below the screen, but ICS integrated them in the OS.

you could use the phone without cloud serice if you don't need id, i also opt out from cloud because is frustrating when you don't have internet connection with you... just use the internal phone memory and sd card for all the files you want and it is enaugh :) enjoy

The batery is good for what the phone can do, aprox. 1 day with wifi, talking, gaming, and internet. only talking and messaging I think it will stand for at least 2 and a half days. Hi, i have bought this device 4days ago, i did an endurance test: from 100% to 10% battery life in 4h25m with WI-fi on, 8gb app download on wifi, live tv and online gaming. In normal condition it last me from one day to another, never let it discharge under 30% so far. Very very good device, i can play gta3 nova asphalt 7 and many other games lag free. I want to know the battery life? in stand by and in talk time. Is big difference between acer and samsung s advance? because acer have 1460mah and samsung have 1500mah. why at spec at samsung apear 550h in stand by at samsung and just 355h at acer? is a difference about 40mah.

i have the phone about a month now and no complaints so far. except, for all of you worrying about the battery: it really isn't much of a powerbank. When using it normally, ie the way i'm used to with my nokias like E63 and E6, it's a disaster. charging it at least twice a day... And it only means normal use, msn and skype in background, some browsing and that's it. Goes empty in 8 hours. No games, no movies, if i do that, 4 hours tops. Right now trying a day without anything running besides factory apps in background, so no msn or skype to see the difference. Results so far are promising, 7 hours up-time with 84% juice remaining. So much about a smartphone, don't use it and it will go on a whole day...

I sure hope they make a bigger battery for it at some point. I just purchased this phone (still waiting for it to arrive). I hope the battery life isn't too terrible. My previous Arc S had a 1,500 mAh battery and it regularly lasted me almost a day, if not more on a regular basis. So that gives me some hope.

It's been now a week with the phone and it's supa sweet ! Regarding the call quality, it is very decent and I didn't experience any muffled voice. Remember that call quality depends on your mobile network as well, maybe it was the issue Toon had. Battey is the drawback of the phone, I charge it once a day because I'm playing a lot with it. But there is an energy saver mode which can make it last longer. Anyways, I've read Acer will release a bigger battery soon. Needless to say, go for it, it's a nice investment

No matter what a phone costs, it should be decent at call quality. My cheap Galaxy Gio was reasonable to call with, my Lumia 710, which didn't break the bank has excellent call quality (although the earpiece could be a little louder). I think it is a shame, cause the Cloudmobile is a very nice device further on! It's got really nice hardware. But I don't like its call quality at all. It sounded too muffled, even at a point where I had to ask people what they were saying. A good test for call quality is to leave a message at your own voicemail! Then you know what you sound like through the mic and the earpiece of your phone. And that was just horrible!

Well I have tested the device and while it performs really fast, it lacks in a few departments... First of all, I used only Samsung or HTC devices previously. This meant that Facebook and twitter integration worked seemlessly. My contacts automattically integrated in my existing google contacts and also calendars were automattically synced with my phone. None of this on the Cloudmobile. I had to link each Facebook contact manually and it was impossible to sync my Facebook calendar. But more importantly: as a phone this device was horrible. The call quality was below acceptability. It was nearly impossible to hear what people were saying at the other end, although the earpiece was very loud. Everything sounded very muffled and hollow. At the other end people complained that I sounded as if I was having a very bad cold. As a flagship this can't be tolerated. I was very disappointed especially considering the call quality. Near vanilla rom experience can be good in some areas, but smooth Facebook integration should be a must to me. I returned this phone immediately and was happy to get a full refund. I would not recommend this phone to anyone! Save your hard earned money and buy from a decent brand as there are Samsung, HTC or Sony. Their overlays on Android may be well criticized, but they offer welcome additions. And more importantly: they offer decent call quality!

Hi Michael, Exactly! I am from Belgium and I saw it on the Vandenborre site for �289.99. Looks like it will be available for purchase this weekend. That's not much for a Qualcomm S4 dual core Krait 1.5Ghz powered device. I've seen a few films on the device and the screen looks good too. I am having the same concerns as you do: I have seen some Acer phones before, but none of them were really outstanding. And I have never dealt with their call quality or their ringer volume. The battery life may be another concern with 'only' 1460 mAh... makes me wonder whether it will make it through the day. I am looking forward to your thoughts on this matter! Especially about call quality, loudspeaker volume and battery life!

You can get a battery anytime... And the screen is better than galaxy s3 or htc one x in pixel density.... Galaxy s3 has a much better Soc though... So its a very good option if you are planning to buy an android handset... anyway by the release on Jellybean android OS would be less attractive as it wont support flash... For many users that was the only thing that made them prefer android over iphone... And make no mistake iOS is superior in every other way..(except that its meant for amateurs who know nothing about technology)

It has memory card slot so I do not see the problem. You can not believe it has good hardware? The display is an IPS and 351ppi, which is incredibly high. SoC is an S4 which is really good, no mobiles have it yet sold on the market. Comes with ICS and has no capacitive buttons.

This phone is 2012 phone, but it still comes with 16GB of storage and iGHz of Ram, it is a bit disapointing. For a phone like that, it should have at least 32GB or even 64GB of storage with mocro SD card and it shoudl ahve at least 2GB of Ram.(4GB of ram is even better). Also the 1.5 clock speed shoul dbe increased to at least 2.0 GHz Snapdragon scopion S4 processor with adreno 320.If Acer wants soem breakthrough on the cell phoen market, they shoudl really raise the standard on their hardware so that other manufacturers will have to catch up.
