We have 3 of these in the family, our first smartphones and people with $800.00 Samsungs are amazed at what these phones have for $130.00 I was getting incredibly annoyed lately at the update that installed constantly nagging bloatware that CANNOT be removed without rooting, so I took the plunge and just rooted my first android. wiped the bloat and am installing a 128GB SD card. that'll give it some new life!

Id just like to post here that this phone is still one of the best on the market for those who like normal sized phones (iphone esque) on the android side. Recently alcatel has been doing some odd software updates with launchers/boosters/lock screens etc. At first they seem like adware but its just them (poorly) trying to enhance the user experience with software tweaks. These can all be disabled, some are trickier than others to find in the settings. But mainly i just wanted to post saying that if your tap to wake stops working, disable the android lock screen and use alcatels, i havent had any issue with it that way. Its annoying that you would need to do this yes, but it at least gets that functionality working again. I still cannot find a real upgrade to this phone with loud speakers and a small footprint, everything these days is 5+ inches and none match the speakers this has.

Then who does? Nokia? BTW, Alcatel is not French, they're owned by TLC Electronics. They also own Blackberry now. They are a monster. And yes, this is one of the best phones I've ever owned. Throughout time I've owned many phones from such brands like IPhone, Nokia, Blackberry, Samsung, Huawei, even not so trusted Asians like Blu, Blackview, Vivo, and lastly This one Alcatel OneTouch Idol 3. Let me tell you. 3 years since then and the phone has been working without big inconvenient since then, obviously is not the smoothest phone ever but does the job pretty well, the pair of headsets that Alcatel included are just insane (The sound, the way the fit into your ear, the noise cancellation effect), it gives you a so pleasing premium sensation that you just can't complain. Also, no phone has survived so many drops from my hand ever. I give this phone an 8.5 out of 10 at Best Value for Money.

I would rather wait for the official MM update (if it ever comes to 6039y). I'm still on LP 5.0.2 but i messaged Alcatel a week ago about the MM update for 6039y variant and they said currently it's not available but the rollout has not finished yet (still not finished after about 9 months!?!). I remember rollout started last year's summer for US users so how long does it take for MM update to reach every variant out there :O I'm kind of starting to lose hope but you never know when MM update might hit my variant too.

I am gettin back to Android after having suffered for 1 year the windows phone scum. To my surprise the phone has enchanted me, in Argentina I got it very cheap and is really simple, thin and very fast, with a decent camera and excellent sound, and includes headphones. Recommended.

I've recently noticed there is album cover issue with Mix music app... ...before that every album cover was shown properly but now only couple of album covers are shown and majority are all empty. I wonder why this happened?!? I'm still on 5.0.2 so i hope that when/if 6.0.1 shows up finally, this album cover issue will be gone. But have you guys any idea what's causing this issue and is there a easy fix?

I've had this phone for one and a half years and decided that I would finally - hopefully not too late for the brand or the phone - make an effort to say how great it is. Yes, there is, per another review, a small issue with hearing people on a phone call; that is, the volume could be louder. But otherwise, it's an awesome phone. Speaker phone mode is great (plenty loud and very good quality; I listen to music and podcasts on it in my no-blue tooth-equipped car). Never had a problem with it despite it being on 24/7. Love the phone, and great value.

That's true and it will also reinstall latest Android version without warning... ...it did clean install 5.0.2 couple of weeks ago when i checked if MM is available... ...can i just check for new updates using this tool without it starting to reinstall 5.0.2? Just got Alcatel One Touch Idol 3 4.7 from 02 in (used) perfect condition for £29.99. Ordered on 20th October, arrived on 21st October.. great. Only problem is call quality. You can barely hear what the other person is say. You have to but the speaker phone or hand free kit. Even then for some reason at times you can’t hear anything. Called 02, they will be sending me a replacement handset on Monday. Hopefully that shouldn’t have any problems. While watching movies, you tube videos, playing games the speakers work fine. In fact they are so loud you have to turn down.

Great smartphone, the sound of the speakers it's awesome, my girlfriend own's a Huawei P8 and doesn't compare with the Idol 3, the size it's just perfect to use it with one hand, but not to small to enjoy a good video. The camera is better than other smartphones and it has a Sony sensor by the way, it takes great pictures and very fast. I really recommended it

I am not a big talker, I have this phone for a week and I must say that I'm very pleased by it. I had before a Samsung Galaxy S4 mini and I was always looking for a charger. I can tell you that you can use it 24 hours, with wi-fi on with no problems. Quite cheap, I am waiting to see if after 2-3 months everything it's still the same.

Bought this phone last week. It cost £72 second hand in new condition. It is an absolutely amazing handset. The specs are high, and performs as well as any high end device. The screen is crystal clear and viewable from all angles without fading. It's fast, the camera is superb, the battery lasts a day with normal use. My only criticism is 8gb internal memory is not enough. Although you can use a micro SD. If you're low on cash but still need a good performing handset then you will not be disappointed with this one. My previous handsets have been Galaxy S6 edge plus, Xperia Z5, LG G4 and this is almost as good as all of them. No I'm not drunk, this is a quality handset.

i am a technician and i have used more then 100 phones in my life.... idol 3 is yet the best phone... for a cheap phone, it is very fast in processing and internet... overheats at times but only when downloading too much from the net... off the data and it cools down fast... camera is amazing... the perfect cheap phone

My first had the same problem. The second didn't...in the beginning but then it came up. It's a design issue because of the chip placement. It's too close to the display and in time it starts showing like a square. It doesn't impact functionality thou. Next Idol will be better. Although I use an IPhone 6s, I'll still get an Idol 4 as a secondary phone. Great design and specs and quite different form factor unlike the competition.

Hi, I have the same problem. The white spots look like a square actually, so I wonder if it isn't the result of a chip overheating underneath the display. I didn't have the problem with my first Idol 3 though,the one that I lost. For the rest, I'm still quite happy with the phone.

I had tha same issue with alcatel idol 3 4.7. I replaced the screen on warranty last month and the white spots are here again. I think maybe it's a problem with alcatel's tehnicolor display.

Purchased one and already sent it back to replace the screen: white spots in the lower third, visible - and annoying - on white and light color backgrounds, so technically always... Very sad about this... Talked to somebody who has replaced the screen 3 times already, white spots are coming back after 2-3 weeks, despite the screen replacement... I've read somewhere that disabling wifi will improve the call quality. I've tried it and it seems to work a little better. Hope alcatel sends an upgrade to solve this issue, because it's really anoying.

Hi, my model is 4.7 and dual-sim. These are the major issues found until now: - audio degraded, especially when I join a call conference and is really difficult clearly hearing the speaker/s. At the beginning I suspected that was the headphone but the same used on another device works properly. - sometimes trying to recall a number from the call history is not working. I noticed that happens in this particular condition: select the number, select "details" and then "modify before calling". After this action is not possible make any call at all. For both above issues the only way to solve is restarting the phone. Has anybody experienced this problems and/or has any suggestion ? Many thanks.

yes but not to every one , so when installed in your phone after you go to Setting apps , select,Open and move to SD card storage . This is good for applications that are not important , and not for facebook or games that need large memory because after the phone will be slowing down sd card most of the images and music

This is not my model of Alcatel , but to me this way for blocking so you can try it . if the contact is in the SIM then it must be put in the phone memory , then select contact , soft menu key, and shows the block incoming calls , and mark . also if you have AVG Antivirus , then open'it AVG icon , privacy , call and message blocker choose , calls or messages , up a small icon and select a contact to block . I got the phone yday. First impression was good. Light weight, great WIFI coverage (compared to 1st gen MOTO G), expected battery life etc. However greatly disappointed with camera (I have DSLR for great shots though).. Considering 13MP v/s 5MP in MOTO G, I expected a lot better but my hopes failed. Low light photos really not good. Outside is OK. But comparison to 13 v/s 5, ohh NO.. Why did such a crappy camera?. Excellent quality for the price. I have this phone for 2 weeks and I had seen some really good reviews, but now that I have this phone it's even more fantastic than I expected. Great display, it's 720p but very very bright. I can leave it at around 15% in my house and still it's bright. So much better than the LG G3 which I had before but was too big for me.The viewing angles of the display are very good too. The screen is much better than even the G4 which I compared. More bright. Don't be fooled by specs, it's more important that a screen is vibrant and bright. The sound from the front speakers is AMAZING. I can't even describe how fantastic it is, so loud and still without noise so it stays clear at high volume. Everything is really fast without stutters because of the almost stock Android (Samsung's Touchwiz slows down the phone with sometimes lag). Alcatel is smart to keep it as much as the standard Android version. Camera is great too, especially outside. Inside pictures are average, but that's to be expected by a budget phone. Battery life I have watched with close attention, and it's between 6.45 hours and 7.15 hours with browsing, YouTube, whatsapp and taking photos. This is definitely better than the competition in the same price range (Galaxy J5, LG Magna or G4C, Moto G). When you buy this phone you will not regret it!

The 8Gb single sim version actually has 16Gb (hidden partition). So you get 16Gb plus SD card slot. Search on XDA for a complete guide how to enable it.

Only the single-sim version has MicroSD card slot. Same goes with (5.5). Dual-sim versions have larger internal memory, however. But both slots are used for sim card.

*My comparison to Moto G 2015 *8gb, 1gb ram version) for same price* I bought the 16gb version with 1.5gb RAM through Alcatel-via Amazon Prime. This is a great phone. I had the 5.5" version, but had to return it because of terrible software lag. Since then, Alcatel has upgraded the software and it works great, especially the tap twice to wake/lock screen, even with a 3rd party launcher (which I recommend). Love the 4.7" screen size and thin profile 7.6mm. Front facing JBL speakers are amazing. I got this on the heels of buying a new Moto G 2015, 8gb 1gb of Ram, for the same price, but have set it aside as a spare. Compared to the Moto G 2015 8gb version for $180, you don't get IPX7 water resistance, or as good a camera, but you do get NFC, sim card, great audio and (IMHO) snappy performance. This is a great phone for the price. On AT&T in US with 4GLTE.

The battery is not bad at all. I'm using an IPhone 5S and the LG in paralel so I can confirm that the battery is better than these last two. The phone is charging in 1:40 min which is more than both, the iPhone and the LG, but not by a lot (20 min). It doesn't heat. Not more than the iPhone and that is when plugged in the car charger and using navigation and streaming over Bluetooth. The Bluetooth connection seems to be better than the one on the LG. My smartwatch used to die after 9 hours, being connected with the LG. Now, after 12 hours, I haven't dropped one line on the watch battery. There's no lag what so ever when using the phone. It never crashed. I see some frame drop when using Tinder, Facebook or Google plus. I believe these applications need a really strong GPU (not a high ram, which Android manufacturers still seem to not understand). With intense usage my ram doesn't claimb above 1Gb.... which shows that Android lollipop isn't that bad. Whatever manufacturers are doing is actually wrong... Call quality over the speaker is indeed, not the loudest, but ok. It could be a little louder, true. Now, the major problem I'm having (I'm on ATT, but I don't think it matters) it's the call drop. It dropped my calls about 4 times in a conversation, yesterday. T Nothing today, in the same area. It gets even worst when out of a sudden, from dull full signal it drops to none. Sometimes it shows that I have no network but I can surf the Web(that's weird) sometimes I don't have network and therefore, can't place a call, but guess what: I can use the Web through data...!!??? I really hope that this is a software issue and not a hardware one. As for the build quality... get a screen protector and a case. The plastic the phone it's made its really... meah... Mine already came with the silver strip bended. I would compare the plastic with the one on the Moto X 2013 (back) Extremely soft... I think it was designed like this because it's very light. Overall the phone could be really a winner with small tweaks. Really makes you question why would you pay 500+ for phone. Speaking of which, I've played today with the new Note Edge and it crashed within minutes... My Alcatel didn't since I've got it(3 days)

It was the latest from Sunny so I bought it even without a protective cover. It gives vibrant photo capture than Sony Compact Z3. The video is great at 1080 HD but 26 frames per second only and no manual sports mode so you have to move it slowly and avoid shaking it while taking videos in MP4. Then, I switched to 720p which is ideal to save storage space. I am happy now.

I bought it few days ago and I'm generaly very setisfied with it. I like that can be used one both side (no up and down;)) like the screen, JBL speakers are great, application for mixing music is great with all kind of efects! Applications work fast and smooth, battery is ok.what I do not like so much is camera because the pictures turns all yellow I dont know how to describe it, and the sound when I make calls is poor (very strange considering great jbl speakers)!if the camera was better I'l give this smartphone 10/10

Got my Idol 3 4.7 version. Best mobile in its price range. Excellent screen and battery life.battery stands an avg of 18hrs with heavy use(mostly connected wifi).camera is decent.awesome jbl speakers... Nice exerience to listen songs and watch videos in this phone.

The specs of the idol3 show bluetooth 4.0 a2dp, whereas the moto e xt1521 show bluetooth 4.0 le. Does the idol3 4.7 not support ble? Although most of the specs are superior to the moto e xt1521, this would be a deal breaker as I want to use it to run and pair with hr monitor, withings scale which are bluetooth le devices.

It's been out for more than a week in Greece. I have bought it and it's excellent. More than 1400 MB real RAM, more than 700 MB available at any time. 8 GB ROM for the single-sim model plus a microSD slot. About 3 GB free space after removal of some useless apps (no rooting). Apps can be (partially) stored in the memory card. Extremely smooth operation due to the practically pure Android 5.0.2. Antutu at 22700. The camera is really good, even at night shots. The dual JBL speakers are out of this world...better than anything you've heard so far. Excellent JBL headphones included in the box. Battery duaration is satisfactory and it will last one day even for hard users. Very good quality of materials, excellent form and handling. I can recommend this wholeheartedly to 4.7" phone lovers!

The power button exactly opposite the volume up turned out to be a deal breaker to me. You constantly make screenshots or when powering up the phone get into recovery mode. Other than that the reversible function turned out to be more useful than I had expected. Too bad!

If the smaller device got the same specs as the bigger one, it will be more expensive than the bigger one, because the more the phone is bigger, the easier it will be to insert the chips, that's why Alcatel lower the specifications
