If your model has a sim slot then what worked for me was. Turn wifi off .Power off the tablet then put the sim in and then power up again . It should then recognise the sim. Good luck.

There's an unofficial port of KitKat for the Xoom, and basically everything works, and works correctly, for all models. If you update to KitKat and choose the ART runtime, you can lower app memory requirements and extend the battery life of your XOOM considerably. Yay, KitKat! Boo, Google for no official port!

The Xoom is my favourite tablet of all the tablets I have used. I upgraded the software to jellybean 4.1.1 and its breathed new life into my xoom. Its fast and the keyboard is instantly responsive. I tested the 4.1.2 and the 4.2 jellybean ROMs on it and I think it was pushing its ROM too far become laggish and the internet speeds dropped off. I can honestly say the 4.1.1 mod stock ROM turns my Xoom into a new tablet again and I see no reason to change it in the near future. I don't think motorola ever realised what a gem the Xoom was as the rushed to push the new xoom out quite early after the mz604.

It should have support for the normal android screenshot shortcut: volume down and power held together. If it reboots then it's volume up and power. Though i think it's volume down.

The Xoom model 604/606 cannot be upgraded to Ice Cream Sandwich 4.2 due to the memory RAM issues which simply translates to hardware issues. The highest ICS version you can upgrade to is 4.1.2. Which, by the way, is quiet good for the Xoom.

For those who keep asking about the sim card slot here is what you need to know. Only the Xoom model 616 has the sim card radio installed. This is known as the international version and can still be purchased on Amazon.com. These model 616 Xooms cost around $600.00. If you don't have this model you can insert all the sim cards you wish into your Xoom but it will never work. Remember, no GDM radio, no 3g/4g service. Just that simple.

Not sure why they say the OS is not ungradeable. I am now running Ice cream sandwich, when my XOOM came with Honeycomb. By the way, it was never touted to replace your laptop/desktop, just to be used in conjunction with - it's just WAY more portable. Absolutely great product. running Team Eos 3 Stable 4.1.1 on mine and it runs like a dream. For anyone asking the mz604 is the international WIFI model. It has a sim card tray simply for the fact that they all use the same chasis. As the roms for wifi only models strip all support for 3g modems ill be amazed if any of these claims of 3g working are real.

Is jellybean not supposed to make the device run faster? I really do not see why the hardware should be referred to as 'old'. It has IGB RAm and Dualcore CPU. If the devices could be updated to jellybean 4.1.2, then they should be updatable to 4.2 since the upgrade is not major. What is old in that. I think Google should just say instead that it will support its devices for up to 2 years. That is acceptable, but do not blame it on the hardware.

U can use a 3G sim card in Xoom (3G+Wi-Fi edition). But to use sim in Xoom (Wi-Fi edition), you need a 4G upgrade from your carrier.

i bought one last 3 weeks ago and its a very nice tablet. i can get around 8 or more hours internet browsing with some flash contents and around roughly 7 hours of watching online videos (flash based) by the way this is continuous. i really liked it. the only thing that bothers me is the updates for the android OS don't know when its gonna be i'm still on AOS 3.0.1.

To whom it may concerned. If u buy a tablet that specified wifi only then its a wifi only tablet! Ha2. Wifi zoom cannot be used to make call cos no sim card.even if u have the 3 g variant it may not support call. The sim is only for internet access. If anybody wants to make call on wifi xoom, then install skype. I installed skype on my wifi xoom to make call and as we all know, there is a recent update for skype that enables sms.go to market.so far wifi xoom is ok fast and reliable.don't need any update.

I think it is not that good since it is heavy and the microSD slot needs updating to work. But on the good side it has a nice design and it is running on the new android OS, android 3.0 a.k.a honeycomb.

With a price tag of RM2089, the xoom is still ok. i recall samsung omnia 2 had a price tag of RM2400 when first released!!! so the xoom i think is still competitive especially with its high resolution and good cameras. even if malaysian wifi xoom will not get an hc 3.1 update soon(which i think is very very likely),it is still a good bargain. the 32gb of memory is more than enough for storage and since it is a portable device we dont need big memory. we can always erase the file when we are back from travel or so. we only keep important things in the xoom memory and they are mostly small.Since i also own a SGT, i can share wifi on the xoom and its fast. with s/ware like backup pro (free advert!!!), i can install good s/ware on my xoom instead of dependent on market where we cannot d/load many s/ware due to restrictions. in the end i have many s/ware that i like installed on the xoom and its interesting.tq

I've played with both the Xoom and the Samsung P7100. Besides the Xoom having an SD-card slot, the Samsung tab is way better! But they are both lacking in certain areas, hopefully that will all be resolved in the next android update.

I think I'd rather buy the Atrix and get the Lapdock for it, has virtually the same specs as the XOOM but gives you GSM Voice capability plus Gingerbread (eventually)

The XOOM should be available in Australia from about 24th May onwards, with just a few notes. According to Motorola Aust. although the unit has an MicroSD card slot 'Gingerbread 3.0' DOES NOT currently support external memory cards, so you'll have to make do with the internal 16Gb (only size being released here so far)until a patch from Google is released. It will also be available on the Telstra Next G network which should mean the Aussie version has 3G GSM voice AND 3G-850 connectivity

I have used this daily for one month. Dislikes: slighly heavy than ipad 2. App market has less apps specific to honeycomb, but they are new apps coming daily. Likes: fast, battery life good, screen is great, connectivity with my TV with micro HDMI cable, sound is great, google video chat, google apps and their integration, expandability micro sdcard, video playback is great.

Great Device I picked up the Xoom yesterday at a local store and so far I am quite pleased. I spent about 6 solid hours toying with it and yes, there are a few things I would like changed about the os itself but I know this is Honeycomb 1.0 and updates will be coming. A few force close issues, fingerprints and dust are attracted (just ordered screen protector from Amazon to hopefully help with this) but the hardware itself appears solid. People have been complaining about the weird placement of the power button, but I think it's perfect. Same with volume controls. Didn't have any issues with that. Still trying to get used to holding a tablet. I really liked the archos 10.1 idea of a kickstand, but I will figure out something. The only burning question I have (for me) is, do I really NEED this??? My answer so far is a resounding NO. I have a computer, I have my android phone. I don't travel, I don't need it for business, I don't need that much portability....but man, it really is nice to have. It's a total luxury item. Again, this is just my opinion. The device itself really is great. I sat in the apple store for an hour or so when the first ipad came out and I was bored and unimpressed after 1 hour. Sure they have a ton of apps, but so does android. I've already loaded in my favorite 2.x apps and most of them work perfectly...they're not honeycomb optimized, but I was happy with them. There's always going to be something bigger (or smaller in the tablet world) and cheaper with better specs in the future, but I figured I've been waiting long enough and I was really itching to get into the tablet game. I wanted solid piece of hardware which this is. I also wanted a tablet that would most likely be the first to get software updates. The software, while great now, is not perfect but it will get there eventually...I have total faith in Google. Anyways, I know I'm not the best reviewer out there, but bottom line is so far I'm very pleased with my purchase.

I for a long time wanted to post a comment or my view of why I would go with Android Tablet (XOOM) more than an Ipad. I already Own an Ipad. And I really do feel the need to have Android XOOM. It is not because of the Hardware Spec, It is not because of the Software Spec. It's mearly for these unique openness of Android which I mention below 1. I wanted to teach my 5 year Old what Addition is ? What Subtraction is ? And basically how Math is done. I purchsed a few APPLS on I-Pad none of which conveyed what I wanted to Convey and Connect to her. And I am not a Software person to write Such an APP 2. So I decided to use GOOGLE APP CREATOR without having to know the Software. With that I was able to create a nice APP tailored to teach her and I was able to DROP it into my ANDROID-DROID. She was able to pick up Math easily and I felt Proud of Myself. This is a Compelling reason for people to Use XOOM. 1. I have my Songs on SD card and I can swap back and forth b/w my DROID and XOOM 2. XOOM comes with built in HDMI and I don't have to shell down an extra $39 for the Apple Wires 3. XOOM will be able to Play Flash. And my Kids can PLAY the free games on PBSKIDS.ORG 4. XOOM is more Open and Friendy for People like me who would like to use it more personally by creating my Own Apps by just Drag and Drop. 5. Lastly I dont have to Login to I-tunes every time and be scared that I logged out (so that my kids dont accidentaly download where Credit card gets charged).. Android Market is more secure in that sense So all of you who rave and rant about I-Pad ? Think how personal your tablet can get beyond just listening to music etc....

Wow didnt know 12 mm was bulky tablet and yes you do want a cam on the back so you can take a photo of something in front like other people. if you just had a cam on the front how would you take shoots of large groups or scenery like looking up at the building with the scren looking up too how the hell would you see the type of shot you capturing. STUPID comment go jump off a bridge. Cam on the back with screen on the front is standard set up for all cameras and phones. great product only thing i would add is PQ screen mode like the Notion's ink Adam
