O2 X4 - User Reviews

  • approximately 1000 sms's can be stored.......

  • It is not 02! It is BenQ phone!

  • fone is complete but missing blutooth and fm. over it is ok.

  • i have a o2 x4 mobile can i extend my memory card? if possible how much memory i can extend like 1GB,2GB etc....pls answer me soon.

  • hi!! i would like to kno bout the message capacity of this fone... how many messages can be saved in the inbox????

  • i am looking for an o2 x4 pc suite.. can any one help me ?? can i download it from somewhere ??? because i cant access any thing on my phone without the software.. thanks..

  • to leanne i had this fone over a year ago but from wat you say it sounds like a message alert from somewhere on wap alerts but to get to it you have to go onto internet and find alerts to read it..i dont have fone in front of me to help more but its wat they call a PUSH MESSAGE

  • Does any 1 have the earphones that u get wiv the phone?

  • any one can tell me.that any one got the data cable for doing internet with the help of o2x4.if possible then tell me.its a excellent phone.what is the model number of data cable.

  • does anyone know why on my o2 x4 i have a envelope with a little half circle on my screen it wont go away can someone help

  • hey erm i need 2 no how 2 get songs on 2 my x4 coz i dnt no how... i no i hav 2 use the usb cable but were do i go 2 put the songs on my fone?

  • niki: if you go to the images folder and go to the image then click on options then send then send by infrared. To send by infrared you have to make sure that the phone your sending to has its infrared connection on too.On the x4 you go to connections and infrared connections. Hope this helps! :)

  • I have had this phone nearly a year, it has great features and is really easy to use and upload MP3's and the camera is quite good quality in light conditions, but I wouldn't recommend you to buy it if you are in an area where 3G isn't set up yet because the interference from it trying to reach the 3G makes it fail messages so you have to send everything twice, after a while the buttons start to stick and not press, and the battery symbol changes colour alot. But I have had it a year and apart from them I thought it was great.

  • Hey How Do you Send a Picture to Someone Else Via Infared??

  • hi!! im planning to buy a o2 x4, but dont have any idea about its performance. can any 1 help me. should i buy this phone????

  • Some of you are being too harsh on the phone, it is a quite good phone. Some say MP3 player doesnt work, it does on mine. Some say infrared doesnt work, it does on mine. Some say the video jumps every few seconds, it doesnt on mine. The first two problems are probably something the user is doing wrong. Although their are a few problems with it, such as the camera quality in rubbish when gets dark and the flash isnt in sync with the shoot.

  • to add bluetooth most shops can get a chip fitted into most phones to make it bluetooth compatible

  • well,i bought a contract phone with o2 on the 28th may 2006 and im still waiting for it to connect to this day. i am truly disappointed with o2 as i have been with them for a long time. i have phoned several times and they are giving me the same answer that there is a delay with the service. if it doesnt connect within the next 4 days i shall be cancelling the contract and joining another network.

  • My advice is give up on this phone, its not worth it, i had this phone 3 months and broke...didnt turn on or nothing. I've just bought myself the Sony Erricson W900i...much better. 02 X4 and every other phone o2 has brought out are amazingly crap! ive had the o2 x1 x3 XDA and have all been let downs compared to other phones of similar price. Bye. I like to complain

  • Had phone long time, well over a year, bought in first week of selling. Haven't had much of a problem with anything, battery indicator problems a couple of time but corrects when turned off then back on again. Having said this, up until today I hadn't attempted to use MP3 function before today. Used USB + card reader to sychronise to Windows media player, checked the correct format and compression sizes etc... but no matter what I do it sends it to Video rather than Music on my phone, then it doesn't show up in menu, HELP it's driving me crazy, i've been sat here practically all day tryin everythin. Anyone got any suggestions?website and manual sem useless!

  • good alround phone becki you should get a disc with the phone if not call or go to your local o2 shop show them proof of purchase and they'll give you a free one!

  • some people are asking how to get rid of the notfication symbol with the quarter of earth symbol on. well i had this problem to and after deletign everything i realised if you go on to o2 home (wap) you can access inbox on their through the menu and pressing the left arrow till you find it. click on it and there will be a msg there. i've had the phone for a while whilst im lovign it i am also having other problems with it freezing then the buttons don't work then turns off it doen's happen often but it does get annoying. hope ive helped with the notfication stuff

  • The only problem I have with this phone (i have had it for a year now) is the vague instructions it gives for downloading/uploading music. I've just tried everything I can think of to simply upload a tune from my pc to phone handset but to no avail. For this, I score the O2 X4 a big fat zero. Nice phone, great camera, good functions.. trouble is, with the functions you need a first class degree in rocket science.

  • does any body no how to down load the software for the pc sync

  • Excellent phone especially for the price for anyone who has it on pay as you go, anyone who has it on contract is just stupid with the qualtiy phoes that are offered. also i dont think that there is a way to add bluetooth to the phonw, but please if you know dont hide it for any longer/.

  • i have had the 02x4 for 7 months now i think its easy to use , and my little boy has dropped in water and totally submerged it twice now! AND IT STILL WORKS im extremely impressed with this phone :)

  • i wont 2 download a video 2 my fone but it keeps sayin that my usb plug is not connected to my fone??????heeelp and were can u get the program 4 the O2 X4 PC suite????

  • to add bluetooth go to www.addbluetooth.com

  • i have an x3 but when it stopped sending media messages i bought an x4 but shouldnt have bothered the video recording is jerky(the x3s is sooooo smooth!!) getting "please wait" when viewing every pic is annoying(x3 is instantaneous) the 3g streaming is horrendous theres no slideshow style or the ability to listen to mp3s during slideshow like on the x3 i was very disappointed so i kept my x3 and just use the x4 to send media messages i just bought a spare x3 battery for 9.99 from elite electronics they should also sell them for the x4 too i presume oh and on the x4 mp3 player whats that curly line mean theres off 1 and all and a curly line any1 know its purpose? Thanks.

  • Press the small camera button on the side of the phone to use loudspeaker... Does anyone know if there has been any firmware updates to fix the bugs?

  • the phone is great, it's O2 thats the problem. i bought this phone last august and lost the battery at christmas, and O2 can't get me one as they don't make them no more. so word of advice 'don't lose your battery.' if any one knows where i can get one it would be greatly appreciated.

  • For me phone is very good.

  • how do u use th loudspeaker?????

  • I dno wot all the fuss is about... my fone has not had any of these problems... battery life is great... i haven't had any problems with the indicator... and my infrared is perfect! I love this phone! And I think the camera is bril!

  • Anyone who owns this phone cannot give it a good review. Like everyone says, battery indicator is a joke. Sometimes it says I have no battery at all when i've only just charged it, and doesn't change at all until i reset the phone. The usb pc features are useless: I have only managed to transfer 1 small song, and it took about 20 mins. The other songs would sit there transferring for the same amount of time, but then not appear on the phone. This also applies to transferring pics and vids the other way. The pc software is equally useless and outdated, and has crashed on me in the past. The camera is fair, but only if set for the quality and size deemed 'suitable' for the screen. Otherwise it looks rubbish. The video camera jumps every couple of seconds. The flash flashes at the wrong time and so has no effect. However, you can take photos when the phone is closed, using the outer display as a viewfinder. When the photos are transferred to the computer, what might look good on the phone will be huge and pixellated or tiny. Movies are quicktime. The everyday features are also rubbish. Texts are frustrating; the predictive text memory is rubbish and every time a new word is used it isn't saved so has to be re-entered every time; when the 'delete letter' button is pressed and held, it deletes the whole message instead of running slowly; there's no way of knowing when 1 text overruns into 2 texts until just before sending, and then when you backtrack and change it the phone adds loads of random letters for no reason. The ringtone selection is stupid and made worse by not being able to add your own. I set my mp3 as a ringtone for all contacts and contact groups and yet still when people ring me it selects a random ringtone. Not cool when they are all so embarassing. Sometimes it turns itself off for no reason. Phone seems slim and elegant until the battery is clipped on, at which point it becomes a chunk. On the plus side, the memory supplied with the phone is pretty good. At the moment I have 50 photos and 5 videos (although not at full quality and size) as well as about 250 sent and received texts (500 in total) stored. The basic features such as the alarm and clock seem to work well enough, but it's a phone, not an alarm clock. These are features all phones manage and are expected to have, and are just about the only features that can be relied upon on this phone. This phone is a waste of time and money, I've spent hours of my life fiddling with it to get it to do normal things and those hours are now lost. I urge you not to lose precious time on this phone and chose one that has more use than a brick. You can't even build a decent wall with this phone, it doesn't deserve to be called a brick. No no no no no no no

  • phone is terrible, the camera quality is rubbish, video jumps every few seconds, battery indicator doesnt work, infrared doesnt work and the volume up button doesnt work. complete waste of money phone.

  • think someone is telling porkies about having blue tooth added. Iv not seen anything anywhere about this. unless its been completely rebuilt!! Had mine several months and no complaints except the niggly battery life and indicator bar

  • what should i use to add bluetooth to the X4

  • the phone is amazing the only drawback is the battery life which i have developed a solution to make it last longer than 2 days simply leave the phone charging without use 4 a whole 24 hours so the battery reconditions and lasts longer plz tell me if it works

  • how do u add bluetooth???????????????

  • you can fit as many mp3s as you have card space, cos ya can only store em on ya card, and taking each mp3 to be 4mb, you can get 16 on the provided 64mb card, but the skys the limit, i think you can get upto 512mb cards aka 128 songs

  • hey im getting the 02 x4 for crimbo and i was wondering how much mp3 files u can fit on the phone and card?? ta

  • Can i just say, every comment here is wrong, this phone is just the o2 x3 with a marginally different design and 3g funcionality combined, it still sucks harder than a low class prostitute with an industrial strength vacum cleaner.

  • I've had this phone over 3 months now, no problems, battery lasts about 2 days. one thing i will say is the battery indication bar on the main display jumps from being full to having one bar, and even on one bar the battery will last a day. so i only ever charge the battery when it completely dies, in case i'm charging it when it doesn't need it! I'm very pleased with the camera, mp3's etc. i can have my mp3's as ringtones which i love! software for mp3's is easy to use, though it takes a while to load full songs. One question - where can i buy a fitted case for this phone? i brought an x3 one but it didn't fit! Please help if anyone can!

  • Ive had this fone now 4 abt 5months. gud quality camera (1.3megapixel) and u can use your pics as wallpaper n caller id. The video recordin is nt that gud,it jumps quite alot and the sound is barely audible. screen is v.large and clear, very vivid colour (262k) u can have truetones n the sound is vgud 4 mp3. Its abit heavier than most other clamshall fones bt its v strong and the battery life is Amazing! My battery lasts up to a week or more wen i go on the net all the time and play games n txt!! So thats a real gud point to the 02 x4

  • i have just bought the o2 x4 i already own the x3 and had no problems but with the x4 when i add my gigabyte card into the phone it just stops working and freazes if there ant body who has had the same problem can please advise me on what to do thank you

  • how did you add bluetooth to it?

  • I have had the O2 X4 for months and nothing has gone wrong with it i have just had bluetooth added and it is workin great

But i know of some other pepele who have never had any problem, maby its just my luck. but i would say that it is still a very good phone, and as i got it for free, i cant realy complane

  • i got the answer for the mp4 question but i want to know if its video recording is good, as good as the x3

  • can someone tell me if the video recording qualtiy is good as the x3 and if this phone plays mp4

  • I got this phone about just over a week ago I have to say its fairly good, easy to get it all set up, memory card slot which is very handy. Some bad things are that its quite heavy and the battery is pants, lasts about 7-8 hours if u leave it and dont recieve any phone calls or txts or mess aruond on it. My mate has just got the new Sony Erricson W800i im so jealous. Anyway the camera is fairly good I have to admit it has to be proper lighting etc.. for it to work properly and if u fiddle around with the settings and get them how u want its great. Another bad thing is in the T9 dictionary when u want to make a new word it wont store it in, I havent found a way to do it yet thats a big downfall. Anyway I would give it 7.5/10. Its easy to put stuff like Angry Kid on it and other MP4's.

  • Please Help!! when i link my o2 x4 up to the computer, it says the phone is connected but when i try to upload any music image or video files it says "phone not connected". i have the phone on syncronisation mode as well. please some body help me!! Thank you Daniel

  • Yes it has a loudspeaker, you can listen to the MP3s without plugging in your hands free, if thats what you mean... I still really love the phone btw its the best mobile phone ive ever had really its great :-) it takes a while to load screens and process pics and videos which can be slightly frustrating but otherwise it really is a great phone and I'd highly recommend it to others :-)

  • Please can someone tel me if it has a loud speaker or it has to be pluged in because i no the samsung d500 has to has a loud speaker pluged in plz some one reply

  • can somebody tell me if this is a good phone it looks good and it has good features

  • Go on to the siemens phones on this site and look at the SFG75 it is the exact same as this! Maybe siemens copied this one or they make the x4 and just decided to make their own not o2 one! Who knows...............

  • ok peeps i need to know is this phone worth buying i am getting some positive and negative thoughts so WHICH 1 IS RIGHT! lolz p.s is he battery life that bad?

  • I am 13 and has just got the phone a month ago, ive read the reviews and have answered them as best as i can. 1. If the computer cant see the phone os because you need to open the phone up and click on card reader. There is also sync mode don't use that it is crap and to slow. 2. The phone is awsome, some times the video jumps but the playback of videos/ films is good. 3. I don't know how to put games on using me because you can only see images, videos, mp3, ringtones and wallpaper on the memory card, so looks like you will have to use wap. 4. The phone can play wave files as well as mp3's but to see the wave songs you will have to go on ringtones, where as u can just go on mp3's for the mp3's. I hope this has helped if you have any questions email me and i'll answer them as best as i can: [email protected] 3.

  • help! sum1 plz explain, in easy steps, y my mp3 wnt work?! it ses i dont hav a device connected but i hav my usb in n my fone pluggd onto it! heeellpp

  • just got an O2 X4 and cant upload anything into phone from pc comes up with message saying phone not in sync mode ........ what am i doing wrong !!??

  • Hello I have this phone as well,it's brilliant mobile phone. There is only one thing wchich annoying me:There is no way to put Java Games via USB Cable!!Anybody know how to putnew games.Maybe there is some special code to unlock Java.I have no idea

  • Could somebody plz help me I've just bought this phone from argos on pay & go and its now registered and topped up but when I try to use o2 active it just says network down and when I try to get settings online it doesn't give you the option of choosing the x4 as a handset. Also tried texting o2 for settings but said it couldn't give them to me plz help me!!!!

  • the 02 X4 is the best phone iv had and u people out there who say that its crap, well its not. its just that you don't know how to use the phone. You are ment to start at the front page of the manual an work the phone as you go along its easy to get around once you read the manual. I was able to within about 3 days.Easy as CAKE! T.Brodie

  • can you take the battery out of the phone in case it brakes. does it jump when playing the video, and does the battery get worse. where is the cheapest place to get it

  • I had the same question but I found the answer after a lot of trying! It's an O2 alert - you can get to the inbox via the wap browser. Start it up by pressing 'O2' then hit the 'menu' button and select 'Alert Inbox'. Manual clear as mud on this one.....

  • how do u actually get songs on 2 the mp3 with the usb cable as i cant seem 2 get songs on to it!

  • Hiya, I have just converted to this 02 x4 and i must say i hate it. It's big and bulky and i am having no end of problems with it. I have the envelope in the corner of my phone with what looks like 1/4 of the earth in the bottom left corner that is constantly in my screen. I have checked my texts my media messages and even deleted everything on the phone but i still can't get rid of it or find out what this envelope is for so answers on a post card please... My battery life started off fantastic but now it's non exsistant, like a lot of people here my phone barely last 24 hours now and i hardly use it within that period. Also i find that when i have the phone shut or even open and it is "dark" on a screen saver that it comes to live ever 30 secs or so for no reason at all without being touched. I can't get my video to record more than 3 seconds of footage either but that could just be me... Very faulty and i can't wait to exchanged it,

  • Like Marcin, I'd also like to know well firstly where and then how I transfer java games from PC to phone... I cant find any mobile phone websites that support the X4 for games or ringtones or most other things, although some do support up to the X3 but dont mention the X4. Has anyone tried selecting their model as being the X3 and downloading/purchasing ringtones/games etc. for the X4... just wondering if that might work because the X4 is pretty similar to the X3?

  • I've had the phone for a couple of months and the only problem I have with it is that I can't find a way to save words in the phone's dictionary when texting... does anyone know how to do this?? It's so annoying having to type in the same words over and over... other than that I've found it to be ok - yes the video jumps a bit. The camera is ok...the mp3 player is good (now I'm using the 'card reader' mode which is so much quicker!) the battery lasts about 3 days depending on how much you use the video and camera...they seem to use the battery faster than the mp3 player...although it's hard to tell because the battery meter is always wrong :)

  • does the screen jump when its recording video

  • I am thinking about getting this phone but i dont now how long the memory is on standby. can someone please help

  • Man! this is just same as BenQ s80 whats going on!!!!!!! o2 is copy cat

  • does anyone please know what the quality of the x4 video recording is like? 30fps like the x3 or just qcif. can anyone tell me?

  • Hi I bought this phone about 2 months ago,and I'm still looking for solutions how to put java games through Usb cable. Is anybody know how to enable java in this phone?

  • Thanks Si, I got it to work. I dont know why it isnt mentioned in the manual considering it mentions the other text mssg settings but oh well, as the only complaint I have (thta its not mentioned in the manual), it could be much worse! *lol* thanks for the help! :-)

  • isia hold down hash # when on the Abc and it will change to abc then ABC.

  • This is most certainly going against the grain but i had the X3 until it was stolen and as a replacement bought the x4.Compared to the X3 (which had a fair few faults) im really not a fan of the X4.For a newer model its got a poor camera,is fat and heavy and the battery life is awful.Don't buy it.

  • I finally got my O2 X4 on Thursday and I have to say so far its been really good! its easy to connect to my laptop, I can transfer pics, video files and MP3s and you can fit a good amount of data onto the provided 64mb card. By the way I made the mistake of trying to transfer files from phone to PC using the provided PC Suite program using PC Sync and yeah it goes incredibly slow but sure enough, if you select 'card reader' from the connections options and then go to my computer, it'll show up as an extra removeable disk and transfering files that way is indeed much, MUCH quicker - which im really glad to know *lol* Anyway yeah its really good, I love it! :-) the only thing is, I cant figure out how to put capitals when im texting. It doesnt say in the manual, I can make spaces between words and get the symbol screen up as well as change between numbers and ITAP but I cant find how to change from lower to uppercase...can anyone help? srry if this has been answered already... and thanks for all the other reviews people have left, they helped me decide to buy it

  • can sum1 plz tell me how long dis phone records vid 4?

  • Great phone, great Mp3 player. Wasnt to sure at first to buy it but am very glad i did. Another one who has the notification envelope on the screen, ive emailed o2 just waiting for a reply, will post if i get one.

  • Its ok thanks Ibo, I found it for sale on another website for only 115! :-) I think whats happened is their not offering it as a pay as you go phone as its listed in a few websites but most only list it under contract phones, however I managed to buy it as a pay as you go phone. I'm just waiting for them to get the phone from their suppliers as their out of stock but hopefully I'll have it by next week! I'm really excited :-D

  • i saw that phoe in the o2's shop window so it must be available

  • I really want to buy this phone from O2 but when I went to order it, it came up with an error message and now I cant find it listed anywhere :( It doesnt show up up on O2s shop website and although I found it in Argos, when I tried to search for it by name and by catalogue number on the Argos website, it didnt find it there either...I take it that its been taken down :( I hope this isnt permanent, I just spent a good few hours researching it online and decided this was just the phone for me and now its dissapeared! Anyone know if it'll be available on O2s website anytime soon? or why its been taken down? thanks for reading...

  • if you can deal with charging your phone everyday then this is a great phone, i cant. and am currently tryin to swap my contract x4 as, my battery doesnt last even one day on standby without needing charging.....they gave me a whole new handset and still have the problem which leads me to think its a general flaw in the phone. worst choice i ever made

  • Hi, I Just Want To Know If The Phone Is Compatible With A Vodafone Sim And Secondly Can The Infrared Port Receive And Send To Other Mobile Brands?

  • to katy its 129 in new argos catologue & same in o2 shops,a brilliant buy and ive had no probs with it.I like the scrolling ticker on the internet for latest news and screen is crisp clear and adjustable for contrast and brightness.this model accepts large files over infra red(videos)not unlike the x3

  • i have the x4 and i own a 1gb card and it works perfectly

  • Does anyone know the memory expansion limit of the o2 x4? because i've heard 256 mb , 512 mb and 1 gb not sure which to believe. anyone tested it out?

  • I would love to know what format the video runs at on the x4. I'm trying to download via the usb cable and having a 'no go'! Can anybody help?

  • Hello I have this phone and I think this is the best phone for this price. One things which makes me mad is that copying files via USB cable etc.mp3 from PC to mobile phone takes so long. The best way is to buy a MMC card reader.

  • i am thinkin about buying this phone but would like to know how long the maximum video time is could somebody please tell me

  • On my phone (not X4), to get rid of the area codes go into messages, broadcast, then recieve and select disable. Try doing this, if you want more detailed info email me.

  • perfect fone.

  • You cant mate, its there to let u know u have a new message. check carefully you do not have an unread message, not necessarily at the top of the inbox.

  • Had x4 for couple of months, still getting to grips with functions! Can anyone answer these questions: How do I get rid of the notification envelope in the top left hand corner of screen? I have checked all inboxes and cannot find anything in book or on phone to help??????? Also I seem to have area codes scrolling across my display although this has only happened in the last few days, anyone know how to disable it or know why? Reasonably happy with phone apart from that:)

  • Video can be taken all the time the phone has battery power and memory space - on the standard card of 64Mb the battery runs out first, after about 6 hrs

  • mate if you have the choice of this phone and the k700i, i wouldnt evan consider this one, k700i is an all round more impressive phone, if its the cost you are worried about though choose this phone because its a bargain

  • does this phone have the same cif video recording quality as the o3? and how long is allowed for video messaging, 10/15 seconds? i heard the camera takes slight better pics then the o3 replies needed thanks

  • hi im concidering buying this phone or the k700i , but can some one please tell me how long this can video for PLEASE EMAIL ME ASAP

  • Hi, I love this phone, the camera is great outside, perfect for taking stills. The mp3 is fine, good quality throught the loudspeaker. Does anybody have problems with the video on your phone. Mine seems to stick after every 3-4 seconds. Any ideas how to prevent it. It is on high quality and qcif quality. Any ideas?? Cheers

  • Can any1 please explain step by step how to get mp3 files from a cd to my computer and then 2 my fone, the stupid manual is a load of RUBBISH!!!! (please Help)

  • transferring mp3 to the phone from the comp via the usb cable seems so very very slow. Ive read that if you put the phone in card reader mode that the transfer rate is a lot faster, however when I try to use the card reader mode it tells me that the phone is not connected and I subsequently am unable to transfer anything. Maybe Im being thick and its something really obvious that Im not doing but I would appreciate any suggestions.

  • not afaik mate.

  • I think this phon eis pretty decent, a few minors like no bluetooth, but i got to wonderin, does anybody know if its possible to use the o2 X4 as a webcam on the computer? thanks ben

  • A card reader is not required. To sync, plug the usb cable in and select card reader mode - the phone acts as a card reader to allow file transfer.

  • I forked out 150 for this phone, bought it today and it completely screwed up. For one thing apparantly it would work without a card reader (which is rubbish) and now the camera does not work in any way shape or form. this may just be one faulty product Anyone have the same problems and fixed it i'd be very glad to hear from you Ciaran

  • I clearly read that this phone has bluetooth!

  • Does anyone know if O2 X4 supports BREW? regards zzz

  • MP3 tones :). Phone is largeish and IR doesnt work, its true!

  • it sounds bolox. i am struggling to decide weva to get da e720 or this help me pleas!!!!!!!!!!! can u have real sounds as your ringtone. i hate polyphonic ones!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • hi everyone i got my phone today i would advise anyone who wants this phone to NOT get it. the phone is huge(and i mean huge) the video quility is crap, infared dont work dont get it u r being ripped of

  • Few answers :) - For capitals, hold the hash key before typing. - For Camera, zoom only works in lower res than 1024x1280. Zoom upto 8x. - AFAIK not possible to have total silence w/o vibe. - Recording can be several hours long! 5x Zoom max. - Videos can be played in MP4 and 3GP formats, the latter preferred due to its smaller filesize. Memory card reader itself not required, simply put the phone in card reader mode with the USB cable connected, drag and drop files to the Videos folder on your mobile, when it appears as a new drive in 'my computer'. - Change the message tone by pressing the key above OK, move to the profile u wish to change and hit edit. Change the tone here. :)

  • had the phone for coming upto 5months now, and the bloody thing broke, the handsfree kit broke the usb/headphone socet out of it, they are reparing it, but i have to live with an apaling o2 lone phone. apart from that no complantes

  • hi ppl corny has already posted this:- ** It is now also possible to change the message tone from ding dong, to any installed melody or mp3 file! but i want to know how i can do this cos i cant find the option any help would be much apreciated guys

  • to get movies from your pc to phone make sure u have a memory card reader. its quite simple really all you do is convert you movie from avi to mpeg4 to do this you must copy film to pc then to convert it to mpeg4 you must hav an avi to mpeg4 converter software.there are many of these but i tend 2 use the latest DivX codec

  • can some please give me the heads up on exactly how to get dvd's on to my computer, from there onto my memory card and play them on my x4. cheers

  • The X4 is an ugly phone. It's tick and not very handy. If you want a nice O2 phone go for the XM handset. That's a nice handset, which I have tried myself. The music download is perfect.

  • TO ANSWER PEOPLES QUESTIONS ON VIDEO RECORDING!!.is as follows the x4 like the x3 u can record video with sound for as long as you want depending on the size of memory card you have inserted.it also has 8x zoom for pictures and 5x zoom for videos.i have bought a 512mb mini sd card for my x3 and i wanted 2 see how long it would record for ... i gave up at 2+ hrs but u can put at least 3 or 4 movies (full) also lots and lots of mp3's . anything else you wanna know giv me a shout!! JFV

  • i just wanted to know, how long can you record for on the o2 x4

  • does anyone know how to turn this phone off vibrate? it's on silent yet still vibrates, not very silent and i'm sorry to say it bugs me so much that i called o2, they could not help, surprise surprise. any ideas anyone or am i doomed to a forever vibrating phone? lol thanks

  • by the way, marty, you wanted the differences between the x3 and x4.... the x3 is tri-band, the x4 is only dual band so won't work in usa (a step backwards for o2 - why isn't it tri band??). the x4 is on 3G and the x3 is on o2 active. 3G is supposed to be faster, but coverage is said to be poor in some areas. other than that, i don't think there are any more differences. if anyone knows any more please let us know!

  • i'm deciding between this and samsung E730.... The samsung can record video up to an hour, does anyone know how long this can record video for? and does it record silent video or sound with it? also, does this have zoom on the camera? (the samsung has 4x zoom). the thing i like about this phone is that you can buy bigger memory for it, and the samsung has fixed memory!!! please post answers, i'd appreciate any help!!! thanks!

  • Can anyone tell me how to get capitals on the 02 X4 please. I tried typing the letter and using the iTap but can't get capitals. Thanks

  • Memory card reader is not required an is not breaching copyright at all provided files are legit.

  • i tink x4's screen is more large than x3.

  • Great phone very impressed with the mp3 player. Not sure how you get the flash to work on cam but still have taken some amazing photo's and all credit due to o2.

  • correct me if i am wrong, but i compared the x3 and the x4 and to me it seems th x3 is the same but cheaper, what is the difference including the price please. cheers

  • The x4 is a brilliant phone it cobines everythging that a phone needs except bluetooth which i dont think is a necessity. to use Mp3's on the x4 you will have to buy a memory card reader from the o2 shop for 19.99 which plugs into a free usb port then its literally a case of dragging and dropping the chunes into the correct folder. you cannot put transfer chunes using USB cable as this is a breech of copyright. the cheapest place to bu memory cards in a shop is the o2 shop 29.99 for a 256MB card which can approx. hold 60-70 chunes dependant on size. the best point for me on the x4 is it has 3G which is ideal for dloading chunes and seteaming videos on o2 active. Hope this has been of sum use. PAUL..............

  • Im so sick of people whining that this phone doesnt have bluetooth, IF YOU WANT BLUETOOTH GET A DIFFERENT PHONE!, i never used it on my old phone neway, what this phone does have is expansion to 1GB of momory for mp3s images and video and a 1.3M Pixel camera, and all for 150 BRILLIANT!

  • where is the inside camera for video calling?

  • i have found out who makes all the "x" range phones...if you go to www.google.co.uk and enter benq S80 then click on the first link then you will see that in fact the benq S80 is exactely the same as the o2 x4 and if u click on, other phones, or something to that affect, you will also find the 02 x1i in white or black and the o2 x2 and o2 x4 under different names so that is why o2 customer services have no idea about wat to do with the faults i the fones!!!

  • Use cardreader mode to upload, not sync mode. Doorbell tone is present i believe not checked, but can be set as any tone or mp3. Video can record all the time you have memory, so 64Mb card is a very long time, ~ 30 mins.

  • Can someone tell me who has an 02 X4, has it got an annoying ding dong (doorbell) message tone like the X3.

  • How long does it do videos for and how good is the MP3 player?? Please can you tell me because I might get one of these phones and I'm desperate!!!Thank you!!!

  • Hiya - Please could someone tell me how you upload MP3s onto the handset - I have been tyring for ages, but it keeps giving me the message in handset manager that it's 'not allowed' to upload the file, or words to that effect. Cheers!

  • Anyone know how to copy calendar events to outlook, not the other way around? Cheers!

  • the default unlock code on o2 is 0000

  • wots da difference from the o2 x3? theres nothing betta eh?

  • yeh, i have the same phones code probele, if i enter the defalt it douse not work, and you dont have to have a min sd read to put mp3 on, you do it via the data cable

  • Really good phone, however when i try to set a new phonecode, the default code as it says in the manual 1234 is not working. No point ringing o2, as they know F all about their phones. Anyone else had this problem?

  • When i take videos the sound is really low, how do i turn it up??

  • cool phone but am having issues with it. when i went to install the software from the cd it said 'error installing ikernel.exe...' mailed o2 they said to call helpline, did so and they suggested reboots pc etc and are sending me a new disk. also having probs with o2 active, maybe they should just send me a new phone! but anyway i still love the phone, big improvment on some of the o3 downfalls.

  • difference between the X3 and the X4? Im reading that the X3 requires a miniSD reader for your computer?

  • the mp3 player is good, skiping throw the songs when you have a lot on there is a bit of a hassle but ok, and you cane use mp3's as ringtones, and you store the mp3's on the cards, so if your gona use then your gona need a new card

  • Hello. I'm thinking about getting this phone and was wondering how it handles the MP3 features. I assume it can use MP3s as ringtones correct? (no website i've reasearched actually STATED this.) Also. It stores the MP3 ringtones on the card? or on the phone itself?

  • Nice phone, I was pleased to get it, sheap too, if you buy a 512 minisd from ebay (30) you can watch full length films...

  • Can someone tell me if the data cable and headphones are included in the box for pay as you go? thanks ^_^

  • this fone is a fab fone but i do actually prefer the O2 X2 so if i was you i wunt gt this 1 cus its faulty and wen i charged it bout 3 wks ago it smelt nasty and sort of luked as if it had melted it was a nasty luk so sry O2 lv ya ppl XxXxXxXxXxX

  • Defo a good phone overall, a few minor issues but all phones have a couple!

  • Y dnt O2 just cut to the chase??? they r obviously dieing to bump out Bluetooth so y dnt they!? would have bought fone if with bluetooth! O2 i hope you read this n rite down the hints!! BLUETOOTH big enuf?

  • is this phone 3g? does anyone think the phone as a whole is very good?

  • I want to use my phone abroad with another sim in the country but it request for PULP CODE. Please i need this very urgent. best regards. Austin Lop.

  • its changeover time ..the o2x4 is now 199.99 on o2 website so now more bang for bucks just remember flash does not work in sync with camera

  • about missing items, when they sent mine, they damm well forgot to send me a sim card..... bloody irating, apart from that, no complants with there service

  • video is not full screen period

  • Charger is in a box with the manuals hidden to the left. Minisd should be with the manuals also.

  • ok box open,,very snazzy,, but cannot find my mini sd card anywhere.Checked if its already in slot but not.could not find charger initially??anyway its at least an 1100ma battery as to the 840 mentioned on the benq site.

  • thanx corny, getting it today if in stock and shop open

  • Simon: It is the same as the X3 as you describe; vids fullscreen and alarmed apptments no probs.

  • Why have they made the X4 Dual band when the X3 was Tri band?

  • on the x3 at top resolution when taking snap image took up the central third part of the screen is this the same with x4..In the vid record mode is the high setting 352x288 which is cif mode as this was the high setting in the x3 wich gave it its quality. Can the vid be played back at full screen and can you set alarmed appoinments.thank you for this vital info

  • yet another most likly stuid question, how do they put the firmwear on it? i hope the do relise a way to put java on via cable

  • the wainting is very anoyting, and i poped into a o2 sho and they said that you could only do java games via handest, a bit irating....

  • Firmware will be avail by O2 shops, ask for an upgrade and it should be free. Probably be a long time til one is released however. Good point about the 'waiting' in browsing - kinda annoying!

  • I've had the O2 X4 for two weeks now, and all-in-all I have to say I'm fairly impressed with it. The camera quality is great in reasonable conditions (outside or where good quality lighting is available). The ability to download videos, mp3s etc from your PC to the phone using the enclosed USB cable is a huge advantage (although it took me a while to realise that you need to convert .mpg files into .3pg files before they are viewable on the phone). The inclusion of a 64MB memory card is also a massive bonus enabling you to really take advantage of the ability of the phone to function as a mobile entertainment facility - the easy insertion and removal facility of this through the bottom of the phone is also well-hought out, unlike the Nokia 6230 for example where the memory card is located underneath the battery of the phone and is only accessible by removing the back cover. However, having said all of this, there are a few issues that should have been resolved before this phone left the factory, and its quite shocking that the marketing bods at O2 allowed the phone onto the market with such blatant faults - many of which have already been pointed out on this forum. The battery meter is very unreliable and does not necessarily provide an accurate picture of the remaining charge on the phone. For example, the phone was charged overnight and then part way through the next day began to show only one bar of remaining power, then an hour later showing no charge at all. This can be rectified by turning off the phone and powering it back on again, but you can never be sure that the indicator is showing the correct power level, and if the phone needs to be charged or not. In addition, there is the flash problem already alluded to on this forum. When taking a photograph with the flash turned on, the flash will activate prior to the photo being taken which means that the end result is no photo. Did nobody test this function at any point? One final niggle is the pull away strip at the bottom of the phone protecting the memory card slot - could they not have left the headphone connection unprotected like the charger socket? I get the feeling that leaving the phone in your pocket while listening to music or taking telephone calls, the plastic strip is going to get broken off during normal usage as it is quite flimsy. Oh...and I know I said that was my last gripe, but why are there no accessories available one month after the product has been launched?? The O2 shops say that here won't be anything until the end of April. Anywho - aside from these issues, I am, beleive it or not, quite happy with my phone. It is a neat, compact and reasonably stylish little number and if you're buying from O2 online, you get a good deal too (50 mins anytime/any network, 500 txts and 1MB wap browsing for the princely sum of 19p/m)

  • i have alsow noticed that the moment that the light is nolonger optumom the camra go's all pixalated, but if i whated a ditigtal camra i would have got myself one, the picture are good at the time i find myself taking them the most, in the day, outside. one thing, has anyone noticed that when the phones memeory if quit full, with like maby 200 photo's when you try to go throw them, it is ether very very slow, or crashes if you dont hit the hang up button and return to the main menu and go back throw the menu's to the pic's agin, i have found it onlu douse this if i have about 2mb of pic's on it, its not realy faltal but a bit irating. this might sound like a stupid question, but when a firmwear is relised, is it downloaded onto your phone or somthing, as if they relise somthing to allow me to add java aplecations from other sources it would be higly irating if i could not take advatage of it. i think i will myself try to contact o2 mysefl about the posiblity off puting java on, i will out there reply here if and when i get one

  • Finally, as promised, some X4 photos are available. BEAR IN MIND THEY ARE RESIZED!! Due to filesize limitations, this is the easiest way to show some pics, unless you can suggest a free alternative to store upto 700Kb files! The quality is good in good light, nearly on par with other 1.3Mp phones, but quite poor in bad light.

  • Still unknown on the Java games/apps issue, contacted O2 to no avail. Hoping for a firmware upgrade to sort the battery meter/java issue and possibly the calendar duration.

  • a very good phone in my opinion, i have alswo sufferd from the problem with the battery monitor but it just tend to igonore it, the battery life is very good in my opinjon, i have played mp3's on it for 5h strat at full volum donw the heaphones, and that only used 2 bars of power, wich is quit impresive. one thing i would have liked would be a sound recorder, but i supose you cant have everthing. one thing i was wondering was if you can put java games on via a cable or wap, as i have been unable to find this out. one small falt i have found, and this is more to do with O2 than the phone is that i have been unable to cheak what it is compatable with on there web site, as for all inenst and puruse the only place it seems to exist is the online shop.

  • how to 3g? where is hte other camera facing yourself? also, not triband...cant use it here..too bad

  • Benq made it, also known as Benq S80

  • ive just prized myself away from nokia for my lastest o2 upgrade.... the x4, i'm feeling sceptical as ive been a loyal nokia follower all my mobile life, so this is a big step for me, im glad to hear that i have 14 days to try it, so if it's rubbish from an inexperienced phone manufacturer i wont be stuck with it. the phone hasnt arrived yet, but all your comments seem pretty positive, the main function i wanted, apart from talkin an textin was removable memory and mp3, which it has, so i cant see me having any serious issues, hopefully my scepticism will be quashed by the x4... lets see i was wondering if anyone knew who actually makes the phones, has o2 setup a hardware branch, or are they paying a reputable company to make em?

  • Update: Battery life is excellent, still on the second charge whilst even using as MP3 player, but the battery meter issue has arisen again hence reported to O2. Only other niggles are cannot seem to install java games thru PC or download from free WAP sites, and the calendar duration issue. Still very impressed personally! Any comments, feel free to ask!

  • hi again phone still good the phone has the same specs basically (apart from size , design and weight) as the X3 but the X4 has 3G capabilities apart frm video calling (who wants it it anyway 2 expensive) yes it does video record [email protected]

  • is it cif video recording like the x3

  • well i got the phone 2 day ago on an O2 contract when i got it i opened the box which has a very fancy opening i charged the phone after this i used the phoned i found it not the simpilest phone to use but still quite easy but maybe worth reading manual first Camera well the camera is 1.3 mp which i thought was amazing but the quality of the picture on the phone is not the best it is a bit pixilated but if you are transferring to computer the picture are excellent if you want to keep the pics on your phone set the camera to wallpaper size this gives you the best quality on the phone the flash is not the best though it flashes about 1 second before it takes the picture but before the picture can be taken the flash goes out (no point having a flash then has anyone else noticed this) as for the phone itself i found it excelent quality and battery life is excellent aswell but overall the phone is well worth what i pay for it on O2 i pay 19.00 a month for 12 months the phone was free and i get 100 mins to any network anytime and 25 txt messages i recommend this phone to people at the minute but view may change in weeks to come if you want any pics of the phone i can scan some in to my pc from instruction manual email me at [email protected]

  • The menu system is quite good, but not as good as competitors. Vid recording is very decent, unsure of X3 quality and hence cannot comment with respect to that.

  • Does the O2 X4 still use O2's crap menu system as used in the X3? and is the message tone changable?

  • to corny,is the x4 video recording as good as the x3 thank you

  • Camera: First thing to notice is the fact that the camera is very responsive, no lag in taking pics at all; at least whilst the phone is new! Also, no longer is it the case that the settings are not stored; once set they remain set until next use! Its easy to say that in artificial light, the camera is not very impressive – this has always been the case with mobile cameras, and no different here. Outside, it is up to you to make your own judgements by the attached pics. Personally, I think although it’s clearly not on par with the S700 or D500, it’s not unusable, and certainly more worthwhile than a VGA cam. Battery Life: Charged fully on Tuesday, but whilst syncing the battery is recharged on the PC, which was done on Wednesday. However, after using the mp3 player for a couple of hours, by Friday end the battery had gone down by 25%. Following this, the MP3 player was used whilst phone opened, power save off, backlight always on, and lasted a further hour before dropping to 50% battery. After this, it took about 3 more hours of max drain like this to empty the battery. 3G: Yep, its 3G certified, but does not offer video calling. Personally this new tech is not of great interest since video calling for ex is costing 65p per min! However improved GPRS speed is no bad thing; and certainly functional and beneficial over the X3. However it has been brought to my attention that a phone operating in a poor 3G signal area may still try to lock onto this signal even if worse than the 2.5G, and offer poor battery life. Where I reside this is not an issue, 3G reception being strong, but one should be aware. It does seem however that this setting can be overridden to only provide 2.5G signals. Conclusion: Good Points:- Its everything the X3 should have been! Cheap for functionality! Excellent Mp3 playback Decent interface Stylish Software seems to be reliable Message Tones can be changed Texting speed increased Bad Points:- Not as user-friendly as some; nokia springs to mind Camera quality remains to be below the high standard of the D500 for ex. Fairly heavy 3G functionality incomplete Minor Software niggles Overall:- For the cash, the phone is absolutely fantastic in my opinion. The features offered are simply unmatched at the price offered, and the niggles really are minor. The camera should be better, but its not awful and unusable either.

  • I didnt say it could support video calling i said 3G phones could because of the frequenices UMTS uses. I was trying to point out that there is other features to 3G like broadband speeds, wi-max (new version of wi-fi)

  • No Ryan. You are wrong. The o2 x4 does not support video calls as you say in your last post. The reason it is classed as a 3G phone is because it uses the technology available to download at higher speeds. It can also deal with video streaming but NOT video calls

  • country to what ASk said it is a 3G phone. 3G dosent mean video calling (however it can support this cos of the quicker speeds) 3G works at different frequences and offers broadband internet speeds

  • Conversely, a reminder is given at the event time, without the need to specify a reminder each time; a handy feature, and the phone vibrates/rings for ~ 20 secs at that time; hard to miss! Problems of the X3… Poor Battery Life Reliability Message Tone couldn’t be changed Messages had no Character count Texting was Slow Camera Quality & white spot issue & did not remember settings From the above, it seems to me that the issues have been fixed with the exception of the message characters count, and possibly the battery life {not had a full cycle yet}. As detailed in the review, the other issues have been addressed. Camera: First thing to notice is the fact that the camera is very responsive, no lag in taking pics at all; at least whilst the phone is new! Also, no longer is it the case that the settings are not stored; once set they remain set until next use! Its easy to say that in artificial light, the camera is not very impressive – this has always been the case with mobile cameras, and no different here. Outside to come...

  • The o2 x4 is NOT a 3G phone. It cannot make or receive video calls. All it can do is download and play video streaming

  • *Update; putting the phone into Card reader mode, rather than sync mode, allows for very fast USB transfers, i.e. ~ 12Mbps! A 512Mb MiniSD card is on its way to make full use of the phone’s potential in MP3 mode {35; eBay} ** It is now also possible to change the message tone from ‘ding dong’, to any installed melody or mp3 file! Calendar: A calendar is actually one the most used functions by myself and therefore important to me. I need to have the ability to rapidly set events minimising input where possible, and easily being able to make amendments. The X4 does complete these criteria, but not quite as effectively as the V500 if I am totally honest. It takes a bit longer than the V500 since start and end times must be entered – and the end time does not automatically start at a duration after the start time, and hence must be set to be able to store the event. A minor niggle, but a niggle nonetheless.

  • MP3 Player: After completing the easy setup process, the PC sync software made it dead easy to send an mp3 test file. Plugging in the headset gives very commendable audio quality of a 128kbps file, and by no means bad through the loudspeaker even with the plastic still covering it! MP3’s can now be transferred WITHOUT additional Hard or software, making the process much more feasible. However, at the time of writing it did seem very slow to transfer over the USB cable {10 mins for 4Mb} no doubt just a setting requiring a tweak.

  • O2 X4 Review Points to note: Some of the GSM Arena data is inaccurate; in fact the phone sports a 1280x1024 camera, a 65000 colour outer screen, a 64Mb minisd card, and weighs in at 126g according to O2’s manual. According to some reviews, the camera of the X3 was improved with a firmware update, and personally if the camera meets the quality of the shots I have seen from this update, I shall be satisfied. Shots shall arrive later! Time came round to get a new phone, and an O2 contract turned out to be the best option. Eventually decided to pickup an O2 X4 following a Moto V500: Would the upgrade prove beneficial following the O2 X3 performance? Initial Impressions: Opening the box is actually somewhat interesting since it opens in a fancy manner, open the left and the right opens simultaneously; certainly working in conveying a sense of quality to the product! Opening the box leads to the contents of the X4, a 64Mb MiniSD, handsfree, battery and charger. The phone itself is in my opinion very aesthetically pleasing, looking professional and functional. Charging the battery, 3 hours later…

  • yes it may have 3g but the phone is still rubbish, i would never buy a x4 simply because it has 3g, 3g isnt all that either

  • its has 3g thats a big difference

  • not exactly changes that will make people want to buy the phone,

  • is the camera any good?

  • There is also a higher colour outser screen

  • Just like the X1, X1i, X2 and X3 this utterly dire and anyone thinking of buying one shouldn't waste their money. Can it even do video calls?

  • well for a start its a 3G phone and the XIII wasn't!

  • no difference from the x3 apart from a slightly larger screen, what a waste of time

  • right...can someone tell me what the difference between this and the O2 X3 actuall is, apart from the fact that the corners are a bit rounder..??

  • its gr8 buy it

  • i like it a gr8 improvment from the X3 i want it ! woo im first post!
