hi there... i think this is a good phone... ibought it 3 month ago...and u know what.. the phone is similar like nokia 7610/6630/6600, and this phone used symbian s60 v2.. so we can download themes... The web is perfect rather than N 7610/6630/6600, mostly faster. if we try to download the themes, the aplication work propely and faster than N 7610/6603/6600 because the D720 had 132 Mhz. To format this phone we can use *#7370#, similar with the otehr symbian phone. I suggest u buythis phone, because the symbyan is stabil...but iam sad about this camera its too yelowis if we printed...the camera ver bad rather than 7610/6630, but it dosnt realy matter i dont need a camera, i bought this phone to use the browser....

I've been using this for last 2 and a half years. It's a nice phone... a bit slow to respond but that's ok for a 2005 smart phone. I had to change the flex cable recently. And its back to normal now. Those who wants to use it for long should get a flex cable..that the first thing that will give you trouble in long run, maybe by then those parts will not be available anymore. It's less than $10 on ebay. Cheers!

Its a great phone. I had it for 7 months. Theres no problem but except for the WEB. I cant access the internet on it. but i dont need internet...hehehe..and also the memory, too low..MMC - 64 MB while its phone memory is only 12 MB.

@Sasha , do a soft reset to get back to the original factory seetings. Backup your phone(phonebook/calender etc) EXCEPT the SETTINGS, then dial *#7370# It will format back to original, but you will loos all the files. Once you are done connect ur phone and transer the backedup files in the phone. Hope this help. This phone is listed in

Transfer songs or ringtones to the MMC under "Sound Clips"/"Digital Sounds" or "Tunes". Then go to contact, open any contact that you wanna assign rigntone. It will show the list. Select the one you need. Mine works that way. Please dont blame this phone for being slow. That has nothing to do with Samsung. Its a samsung model, but operationwise truely a Symbian Nokia 6670/7610, which are quite old.

hey guys! i just got this D720! and i am having a huge problem with it! it happend after i opend some kind of voice program, that would read my phonebook names and stuff...i thought it was cool that it actually can read the names in my phonebook and etc, but then my phone turned off and turned backed on its own...and i get this forozen screen...and i can actually hear this voice program running on the background...but the phone keeps shuttin down and turning back up on its own..if anyone knows what the problem might be, PLEASE HELP!!! how do i get it fixed? is there anyway i can completly restore/reset/formatt my phone without actually turning it on? any suggestions what i should try to do? please help!!! google music video...go to any music video site...click on any video that looks good to you...then go to "tools" in your internet explorer..click on "Internet option"..> settings..>view files.....it sould be there as wma or mpeg or some other format....copy and save it somewhere you want...then use some free softwares to convert them to MPEG4 and transfer them to your phone. This is the 2nd time that my D720 turned itself off without any reason even when I had 2-3 bars battery. I had to Remove the battery and put it back to turn it on. Does that happen to anyone?

@Junner2003 Im not sure where did you get that code from, coz D720 is same as Nokia 6670/7610 and the right code for soft-reset is *#7370#. I would suggest going to series60 site and have a look before doing anything.

The code for hard reset on the D720 is the same like on the NOKIA models: *#7780# Please be adviced that all data on the phone will be lost, even WAP settings, ringtones and installed programs (except the application and themes installed on the MMC) I hope that helped!

I was transferring a few songs to the phone via bluetooth and all of them went to inbox(message folder) and I could not move them anywhere else besides folders in the message menu. @Nick when you add a contact you have the option to add thumbnail. All you need to do is transfer some small thubnail imges of your contacts and add them up accordingly from contact list. By default it shows as little thubnail next to the phone number at the buttom portion of the screen when you dial/recieve a call. There are some applications for series 60 that allows you to see the coller ID image in fullscreen though. Cheers!

Paul they are all talking about apllications/softwares that you can install in your phone. just google software for series 60 and you will know. I tried installing a full screen caller ID demo..didn't work. Im happy with the phone so far...just looking for a 1gb MMCmicro

just got this phone.here in d philippines, d720 costs as much as N70..Here are d reasons why u shud buy this good-looking, feature rich phone : 1. Symbian OS - Software is identical to Nokia 7610, u can change themes & customize the message alert tone unlike most samsung phones. I downloaded themes for Nokia 7610 & it worked in D720. 2. Piscel Viewer - Unlike most Nokia phones, you can view excel, word files in D720. 3. Sharp Screen - Though relatively smaller than 7610's screen, it is much sharper, typical for samsung. 4. Loud Ringtones - It has two loudspeakers, it is not stereo but is really loud. 5. Flight Mode / Memory Card / Stereo MP3 / USB Mass Storage(no need for drivers)/ Etc. To make things short, its design & features are both cool. Battery life is ok, reception is great. The bad thing? NO SPEAKERPHONE & No 3G Support nor EDGE. There's no way u can watch video clips from TV.

@De La Sossa D720 is running on symbian series 60 lisenced from nokia. Its like a nokia phone wiht samsung look. So samsung softwares wont wokr. There are plaeny of series 60 softwares for everything..but well that comes wiht a little price. @Khosrow What mobile security software did you install? does it work wiht series 60? Plz chcek wiht the software manufacturer. If it doesnt work and ginving you trouble, uninsatll it. If still your phone dpesnt work properly then you need to set it back to factory default. Post after you do so. @djthief Ypu have to look for MMCmicro. Interestingly if you search D720 memory in google it gives you many sites offering RS-MMC. Thats not correct. There are MMC, RS-MMC, MMC mobile and MMcmicro...D720 wors wi9ht MMcmocro. So far 512mb is available. 1GB-2GB will be available soon. @Chris Yes it is semi-automatic slide. Works smooth. One thing that is missing in D720 is, unlike D500 it doesnt show time and date after the screen goes back. @jerry I haven't find any free theames so far. So still wiht wiht the default ones That 3-bar battery indicator is standard for nokia phones. I dont think you can find any thesames with more bars. You have design yours i guess. There are some openend programs available in nokia site to craeate your won theames. @jinx Yes the lysics support is like videoke. It is suppoed to show the lyrics while playing songs. But that depends on what file you playing as well. regular mp3 wont do it. I have not much knowledge on that. I belive you have create the song file along wiht the lyrics. Out of all the D series sliders, which would you say would be the 'best'? I've had the D500 before, and loved the sliding mechanism, but for some reason when I tried out the T809, it felt like crap. Does this have the semi-auto slide?

I need a new phone / PDA. Currently have a Qool Palm PDA which is good PDA, but lousy phone. Mainly need PDA for postal addresses, contact details, memos and calendar. Can I use the standard contacts phone book for addresses, or can I download something for Symbian. Or should I go for Nokia 9300? I am a bit of a technophobe.

OOPS messed up..continue here. Right--> Calender Up--> MP3 player Down--> web/internet You can customised them all including the on-screen left and right options. 2. The battery occupies about 2/3rd of the back ..comes wiht separate cover. 3.Mp3 quality is good enough for me to use it as a mp3 palyer. However I didnt use any of those so called Walkman phones by SE or the so called "best" N91 and not interested either. 4. there supposed to be 1GB MMCmicro by now according to samung press release..should be coming up. By the end of the year there should a 2Gb one. For now max is 512MB. Cheers

@HO@HK Softwares that work for nokia Symbian OS 7.0, Series 60 should work on this model as well. Most of the softwares now got updated and you can find D720 in their compatability list. Incase they haven't mentioned D720 then again, you can try the demo version. If have dobts just back up ur phone before you do anything. @jasper 1. yes the four directions of the joystick counld be used as shortcuts. By defult it is left--> SMS/MMS Right

@Jess 1. How strong is the flash? Its a lead Flash..same as in any other phones. 2. No It doesnt have Message counter..atleast I didnt find it.I can count them by logging in T-mobile site. 3. Yes it can record conversation in .arm format but just for 1 min. There is no Beep. or you can install softwares to record long conversation, but there will be beeps. 4. No it does not have speaker phone. 5. scratches or dusts? Scratches..it depends on how ur using it..I dont see any in my phone in 2 months....dust?? Yes..its doesnt have a very glossy surface...but still dust is visible. Hope this helps.Cheers

I paid close to 400USD now its less than 300. It looks and feels so good in hand..I personally belive, the only other model that comes close to the elegant look would be the new E900.

@James and all I did the measurement and here is the result: Width 30mm (note its not 29mm) and height 36mm. Diagonally its little less than 1.9"..safe to say 1.8". The screen is protected under a glass surface which is actually measured at 36x44mm. That leaves plenty of spaces and may be thats the reason it looks smaller. Samsung could fit in a 2" screen here. I have seen same design under different model name in korea with 2" 320x240 resolution screen. Cheers.

@James First of all, there is a saying that at any given time Samsung's display is bettet than those of Nokia's. I haven't get any chance to compare it with other S60 nokis though.But Im happy with it. Yes D720 has relatively smaller display. When it was developed, QVGA 240x320 display was not out there. I havn't get a chance to compare it with other models that you mentioned...however I did check it with D600 which is QVGA. Of course QVGA is better to look at. D720 has 1.9" display. D600 2".In D600 its all smooth you dont see any pixels. I belive its the design that makes the D720 screen looks much smaller than those of K750/W800i. In terms of quality and brightness I loved the display. I didnt find any trouble. Of I found one more difference betweeen the "Chinese" and "Eropean' version: The chinese version has regular samll front.. ..but the european one has same font but bold. Personally I liked the regular font..its samll but fits well on the small screen...and you can read a lot wohtout scrolling. And lastly, Im not saying that the ringtone is in 'ascending", that is there if you want to select. It's just not loud for fast few seconds. then it plays whatever the volume level u set it for. One more thing that I hate about. When you dial a new number..it comes in a BIG ugly font on the screen and in Rainbow clors. there is no option to manipulate it. But at the end of the day its S60, so you can install a software and play around with the fonts size and colors. Cheers!! PS: Those who don't like samsung and have any doubts..its a sumsang phone but functon wise its a Nokia 6670/7610.

Yes it does. However like D600, for first few soconds the volume is quite low and hard to hear..after that it sounds normal.

Hey Jed, ye i know about the adaptor but im on teh phone at least 2 hours a day and no its hard to hear me with the mic on the headset so i was wonder what the pin outs are so i can rewire lets say, a sony ericson headset for my phone. It would also help if someone could tell me how to open the headset so i can simply replace the mic.

It's the same 10 pin port that samsung used in other models like D500/D600. All you need to do is to get a 3.5mm Stereo Audio Adapter and plug-in your fevorite headset.

I dont know why people pay $1000USd to get a brick size N91 to have a little better sound quality.Anyways I charge the phone every second day. The battery indicator has only 3 bar. So after 48hours of use it comes to one bar..and im sure it can last a little longer but I do charge it coz I dont wanna ran out of it. I carry the USb cable always..Good thing is you can charge with USb cable as well, just in case. Anyways if u have any question do ask.I bought this becoz I wanted to have a symbian and all nokia smart phones are big and heavy and I love samsung design. Its perfect for me. Samsung hardware+nokia software.

Records .3gp in 352x288, 176x144 and 128x96 resolution. Frame rate is low for 352x288.Quality is not as good as CIF MPEG4. Plays .3gp, .mp3, .mp4, .arm, .rm, .ram, .ra and .rv files. Pictures can be seen in fullscreen by pressing "7", can be rotated to view in landscape mode. Howevere video doesnt have fullscreen or landscape option. Same thing happens while taking picture or video. No landscpae or fullscreen.

to Answer some of the questions, @vfr I had both the vresions..now I have the european one. Other than anyvoice n mp3 lyrics I didnt find any difference. But as I said before the offcial samsung eropean D720 and philipine's D720 has different battery life (check the official site). But its confusing coz i got my european version shipped from Hongkong. @jay Unlike other Samsung model, here you can set your message tone to any mp3 or ACC. But so far I figured that I can set mp3s or ACC files as my message tone in all rining profile, which when selected applies to all contacts. A 64mb MMCmicro is included in the box.Most probably you will get one with MMcmicro as the official Sepecs says. But the form factor of MMcmicro (12x14x1.1mm) is different from MicroSD(11x15x1mm) and they look a bit different too.They are not interoperable without the adapter.So, No you cant use microSD in the phone. However when you put them inside the adapter (also included) then it becomes a regular MMC or regular SD and they are interoperable. MMC card is a little thinner than SD. you can use a MMC in a SD card slot but you cant use SDcard if the device slot is made only for MMC. Hope this help.

The one I have, uses MMCmicro not microSD. and according to Samsung, MMcmicro is 3.5 times faster than other cards. However I couldn't find even 512mb card in any online store. Hopefully it will be available in 1-2GB soon. Insterestingly I have seen some pics of D720 and someone even posted here that their D720 version takes MinSD card.

Few things missing in 720: FullScreen Video/Image: The usual trick to play fullscreen video by pressing '1' doesnt work on this phone. Afterall its a Nokia phone with Samsung hardware. Does anyone know any trick to play fullscreen video in landscape mode. Now i have to install a software to do that. There is no landscape mode while taking still image either. Video Quality: Specs says "MPEG4 video recording & playback" Thats wrong. It records 3GP video, quality is not good. But it plays MPEG4 files. Audio in bakground: While playing mp3s press "menu" and exit the menu. Mp3 player goes in background and keeps playing. Now you can write sms or open contacts/callender etc. But you can't open the camera. Then the music will stop. Missedcall/SMS indicator: Unlike my other Samsungs this doesnt have a misscall/SMS indicating light. Service lights doesn't flash. Screen lits up once to show you have a misscall or sms and then goes black after few seconds.Dosnt show time and date after the backlight is gone either. Anyone knows any tricks or softwares to make this happen..plz post.

after almost a month i'm using this fone, i'ts time for me to post my opinion.. (btw i'm using the English/Chinese version..) design - i like it very much, small, quite thick, but elegant.. the slider works very good, solid.. the keypad is nice, don hav problem with it features - the most important feature for me is its symbian (because it is the MAIN reason why i buy a samsung).. i found the ABC button is quite useful, it shows sms & recent program used.. performance - some says that this fone is slow, but i don't feel it, i found 6600 or W800i much slower than this fone.. bluetooth is nice, faster than motorola.. the screen is very good, very clear.. the camera, it's OK for 1.3MP, but again better than motorola.. but in video recording, moto is beter than this fone.. the mp3 player, good, the design, the menu, it also has equalizer.. the handsfree is good, it has bass.. the battery, mine last for 2 FULL days for normal use.. >advantage = symbian, design

@Dony Samsung announced a 2GB MMCmicro today. 1 GB MMCmicro supposed to be commercially available this year. So far I can find only 256mb. When D720 was developed max was 512mb. I'm not sure it can take up to 2GB or not. Anyone knows where to get atleast 512mb MMCmicro?

Backlight timer. Regardless of whatever time setting I have, once the slide is closed and the phone is locked, Display goes black in 10-15 second. This is bothering me a lot now. There is no light indecator for SMS or missedcall. So basically I have no clue if there is any SMS or missed call. I have to check on my phone for time to time. Is there anyway to fix it, please post.

Nokia 6280 vs. Samsung D720 Both are sliding phones. however 6280 sliding mechanism is not stable and it makes creak sounds. I think no one can beat Samsung on sliders. D720 works great. Dimension: pretty much same. 6280 is slimmer by 2mm Weight: D720 lighter by 5 g Display: 6280 has QVGA 320x240, a bit larger screen , D720 has 176 x 220 pixels 1.9" screen. Phone book: 6280 can hold up 500 entries only.D720 1000 Card slot: 6280 has mini SD might support 1gb or more, D720 has MMC micro ..i belive it an take upto 512mb only. Operating system: 6280 operates on series 40 and according to the review here, it loads fast.It even gets started without SIM card as well. D720 operates on Symbian 7.0 series 60...and frankly it's a bit slow to open menus and all. Connectivity: 6280 has GPRS, 3G and EDGE but its not symbian so Opera mini doesnt work. D720 only GPRS. if you are planning to use internet 6280 will be much faster. or if you are in a country where 3g works then you can go for 3G video calling, but the battery life will be low. Camera: 6280 has two camera, 2mp on the back (Nokia 2m is pretty much same in quality as other 1.3mp cam), VGA camera in front for video. It recors in 640x480 VGA quality video but frame rate is low.I heard it recors .3gp as well as mp4. D720 has only one cam 1.3mp. It can record video in max 352x288, frame rate is low too...quality not great.and it only recorsd .3gp. but plays mp4. Extras: 6280 has visual radio that D720 doesn't. 6280 has push to talk..(just incase your network provider supports that) So if you are looking for more features and willing to pay some extra bucks (check plemix) then you can go for 6280. Read the review in this site. I bought D720 coz all this shortfall in features are simply overpowered by its look...and I love it.

@mcx Mine last for one and a half day with average use (say a little more than 1 hour talk time, few sms and couple of mp3 songs and videos). I don't charge it every night. This site says talktime is 4 hr and standby 170hr.Which is same as the D720s from philipines site. The European site says talktime 6.5 hr and standby 200hrs. I dont know whats the deal. Its confusing. D720 has two versions.

@Andy, I had the same issue with T-mobile USA and talked to a CSR for over an hour, no luck. Finally I solved the problem. Go to Nokia site and order MMS settings for T-mobile UK. Select model 6670/7610, type ur phone number. D720 uses exact same settings as of Nokia 6670 and 7610. You will get the settings in SMS. Punch in the code from the site. And that's it. Mine is working fine now.

Try installing the driver that comes with the CD first. then click "Get Connected" from PC Suite, windows will do some search and install the rest...and you will be connected in about 3-4 minutes. From next time onwards it wont take that long. Hope this helps.

Had this phone for a month now. Good things about the phone are the specs that Samsung gives you. Bad things are how these specs turn out to (mal)function. The camera simply sucks, photo as well as video. Video is in extremely poor quality with a bad framerate. Taking photos has a major delay on releasing the button and actually shooting the picture, however the quality of the pictures is ok, tho often a lot of blur due to the delay (ofcourse especially when taking photos of moving things). The phone in general is really slow. Opening contacts or writing a new message takes a couple of seconds, same with the menu. Altho this phones does offer the features it should offer, they just don't function the way they should be functioning. I'm seriously thinking about selling mine and buying another phone. I've used 2 Samsung phones before (A800 and E630) and altho they had less features, at least their performance was way better.

Now I need help from anyone how has a D720 with "Voice comand".("anyvoice" under the "Usefullness") I tried restoring my old messages and contacts from the other D720 that doesnt have voice command. There are not much info on the net about this phone and I'm paying the price for that.Hope this will help others. I got a HongKong version of D720. and I came to learn that, 1. It doesn't have "Voice command" or "voice memo". (If you check the pictures, the 1st image where the phone is closed has a different "call" button. It means it has "vioce command". The UMTS one doesn't). 2.No MPEG4 video recording & playback. (It records 3gp only and quality is poor). There are streo speakers, but you CAN NOT use them as "speaker phone". I'm retuning it back. I loved this phone..and hopefully, this time I will get the European verson. I tried to get some info from you guys who has it....but unfortunately no is bothered to share informations. Its sad. We need to help each other guys.

I've checked it side by side with D600. D600 has a 2" display,(resolution 240X320) D720 has 1.9" display,(resolution 176 x 220) But I like the D720 one. It has small sharp fonts and you can read a hell lot on the screen.

being the odd one out of its pack with symbian os 7, UI 60, does anyone know of (for a fact, not guesses) any GPS navigation package that would work on this phone. it seems in theory smart2go� Mobile Navigator USA or Route 66 Mobile Nokia kit would work (although the map files need to be transferred from the RS-MMC to MMC micro).

It works on 3GP. and I found on the samsung website that the Eropian verson has "MPEG4" but the one is their philipines site says "3gp only"..and its called D720S. Pros: It's a smartphone. Lots of features, design. That's about it. Cons: When using bluetooth you can't browse your paired phone, you can only send and recieve. Loading is slow. When slider is up, motioning the joystick down sort of brings the slider down, but not enough to deactivate the phone. Camera is not protected like the D500. **No speakerphone, or atleast I haven't figured it out yet. If anyone figures it out, please post it. For me, the design pretty much overcomes it all. The one thing that REALLY disappoints me is the no speakerphone, because when I get calls in the morning while I'm sleeping, I like to use the speakerphone instead of holding up the phone to my ear.

I got my d720 about a week ago and think its a great phone how ever sinds im not really just to the sybient OS i had a bit of trouble understanding the phone however now after a week i do believe its an absolute great phone So thats for the positive side of the phone The little headset that comes with this phone however is an absolute insult to the phone i really do not believe that samsung has the balls to put this in the package with the phone. i will be looking for a replacement headset soon.

ok here is my thoughts after checking the phone in hand.This is my first symbian experience and it seems it will take some time to get use to it. I havent reached a point to talk about pros and cons. but I would like to give you some informations that is not out there on the web. 1. It DOES NOT have MPEG4 video recording. it records in QCIF 3gp format in 352x288/176x144/128x96 resolution. Frame rate is unknown. Quality is poor.I have to check if MPEG4 files can be played or not. But it has a real player and I assume it can't. 2. Maximum character in SMS is 160. 3. Impresive display even though its only 1.9". Fonts are not annoyingly big, so you can read a lot more lines on screen. 4. Every manu and submenu comes with a long list of submenus, including help (incase you are lost). I assume that's usual with smart phones. But its hard to get to know where is what, unless you are a smartphone user. 5. Even though the power is off, alarm goes on in perfect time. I loved this feature. I wonder how they did it. There has to be some sort of backup power suply keeping the phone alive all the time. 6.Flash is for picture, not for video. Incase of bad lighting there is night mode. I havent checked the camera yet. Will talk about it later. 7. So far couldn't find out how to set picture IDs or separate ring tones. Of by the way you can set any mp3/acc/acc+ file as ringtone. 8. Its a bit slow. takes time to open any menus and all. 9. there are different verson of this phone. Someone said in europe it comes with miniSD card slot (I have seen pictures with minSD written on it too). The one I have, takes MMCmicro....avaiable maximum capacity is I guess 512mb. Thats bad for me. I wish it's miniSD or MicroSD. But overall...I'm loving it.Cheers!

I had purchased this phone back in Mid-February from mobilebee.com. I would NOT trust Plemix but I did use their site to price match my phone. Mobilebee doesnt have the greatest of customer service, but they did come through. The phone's great, the OS takes a while to get used to if you haven't been using Nokias, but the processor is WAY TOO SLOW. Menus tend to lag and it takes a little getting used to. However, my main concern w/ this phone is the lack of support. You can't find much info for anything on this phone b/c it's too new. You have much better luck registering w/ Nokia forums for help.

From a few websites that i have found, there is a countdown on when new phones are available, but the only thing is I don't know how accurate the countdown is. I think both of the sites that i know says that it will be available in just a few more days! The price is around $700. It is a bit pricey but it seems like a very reliable phone. We just have to wait to see if the countdown is correct. Hopefully it is.

to JH: Im a bit confussed. According to the specification here and in other sites, it has MMc-micro. Trans-Flash means microSD which is different format. and then I saw a side view of the phone in some other website where its written "miniSD" over the slot. which is another different card format. Anyone has any idea what actually it has??

i just want to ask why samsung seem to be making these d series of mobiles as if they are music phones yet they do not make them with card slots? I own a d500 and the sound that it has is amazing! but i cant have many songs on my phone because of limited memory, its a real inconvenience. Id like very much for a new version of the d500 to come out with duel speakers and a memory card slot then i would be able to get rid of my mp3 player and just use my phone instead.

Every1 i have been using this fone for the last 4 months and its undelieveble. i was using the D500 before and i was having alot of problems. The D720 is like an upgraded D500 but in perfect mode and much more features. so i highly recomend this fone....

Hi, can someone tell when this phone is going to be launched or it is going to be discontinued like the D700 and the D710??? I do not think that this is going to be good for Samsung because they are producing such magnificent phones and then they discontinue them which they loose profit since people want to buy smart phones these days than ever. Nokia and other brands do lanuch them after 2-3 months that they have been announced. Finally, if this will hit market shelves, it will make a great hit or other wise people will buy Nokia the new N-series which is magnificant especially the N90.

This one looks interesting. I have been carrying around a P900 and the Symbian OS is the best of both worlds. It is robust and pretty bullet proof. Two concerns. 1) Battery life. Can anything match up to Sony Ericsson P900/P910? 2) The age old concern or whether it will actually be released or will be cancelled in pre-production.

@fone dude: Samsung is planning to reach 1GB capacity on MMCm b4 end of year.But i am almost sure that they will be VERY expansive.Btw mass production of MMCm up to 256 Mb is already started.I am still interested in this phone bcos a symbian device with 64Mb of ram will b able to run EVERYTHING and very fastly,and the stereo mp3 player with dual loudspeakers sounds very nice to me.If only it has radio & SD slot this phone was going to be the killa of the scene.

it was wishful thinking on my part. i would have bought this phone if it had a 512mb or 1gb memory card. microMMC=128mb max is a sad, sad joke! now that the D720 is out of the running, time to decide between the SE K750 or Nokia 6681... they too have weird memory cards but at least they're larger.

@Neophyte: I don't think that the actual s60 devices really need this rush to rising up the data transfer speed considering the poor specifics of most s60 phones.Actual standards are more than adequate.Phone companies need SMALLER memory storage cards because the trend is 'we pack a bunch of features while we reduce phone size',not bcos of data speed.They only need to convey on what kind of storage support in the future.All the brands together.But dis will remain a chimera.OH...And sgh-d720 will come with an humble 32Mb MMCm.Sad.

It looks like it will be micro mmc after all fone dude. Read a detailed preview at infosyncworld about a working prototype model at cebit. I'm becoming a bit concerned though at changes that Samsung are going to be making to the Series 60 software.

@darksaber the link posted is to the prototype phone (when it was initially announced) and the specs have changed since then. notice the speaker is silver and not orange. also this photo is a larger version at ~25mm thick and the final phone is 22mm thick. neither of us can be completely sure what type of memory card will be used. this is not a personal attack, i just don't want to give people wrong information. :)

Just like in the world of PC's, standards change and technology improves. The transfer rate with mmc/rsmmc is becoming too slow so the manufacturers are having to adopt new and faster memory devices. I know it must be annoying but that's the way it has to be unfortunately. I read somewhere that a 256MB card will be included in the retail package. Can anyone confirm this? As for the Series 60 software, I'd say that a very high percentage of existing apps will work fine. All the major software writers will be quick to fix any compatibility issues. Any news on whether the phone will be running Symbian 7.0s or Symbian 8.0?

So,again i'll have to trash my beloved 512Mb RSMMC and transfer all the data.This is going to be a curse for both my finances and patience.Why don't they all stupid phone makers adopt a single standard?Even one brand uses 3/4 kind of memory storage for it's phone lineup...that's crazyness!Also i read that sgh-d720 has some 'special' custom features in his symbian OS that probably will make 80-90% of the software already out incompatible.We'll see.

Exactly what I thought fone dude. Still no news on a release date for Europe? Found out that in some countries the phone will be EDGE enabled and in some cases be 3G (WCDMA). No idea what countries will get which configuration. I really hope it'll be 3G enabled for the UK market. Obviously it won't be capable of video calling but there's not much point in video calling anyway. As a warning to people, several auctions on eBay claim to be selling this phone. Do not be tempted to bid as this phone does not exist yet and they are obviously trying to con people. This site will be one of the first places that will tell you about this phone being released.

OMFG!This phone is using a new proprietary MMCmicro!When this is going to stop?Every new phone uses a different mem exp standard,so i have to buy a new mc and transfer all the data everytime!Plus,MMCmicro currently are VERY short on availability,small in Mb size (the larger is 256 Mb)and very pricey.Shame on you Samsung for not using traditional SD/MMC!!:-(

the things i like about this phone are the design (the only good looking slider i've seen) stereo speakers and symbian OS. wish it had a normal headphone jack and was a bit thinner - 22mm is acceptable though.

The W800 has a better camera and comes with a bigger memory card but this is a smartphone. It uses Nokia's Series 60 operating system which means that there are hundreds of available apps and games. Personally I'd choose this but the W800 is still a superb phone though.

Just about surpasses the Sendo X in that it has a better camera (supposedly) and it has better battery life. I am V pleased with my Sendo (The new firmware really sorted out a lot of problems), but I think that I will upgrade if/when this phone is made available. Only thing is the size... I think I would have to hold the phone before I decide, because I have found looks to be deceiving before...

this mobile phone is truly amazing i have done alot of research and would like to buy a mobile that isnt large.heavy.and no features. i was choosing between the sony ericsson p910i and the samsung d720.samsung has much better display.1.3mp camera that takes photos soo quickly and also p910i has expandable memory only up to 1gb samsung if infinite memory expansion. by far the best phone in the world to the current day. no touchscreen although my previous p900 screen had to be replaced as the pen scratches the screen usually and pen is easy to lose. d720 is by far the best now and will not be beaten soon

This is going to be one awesome phone. I'm a massive fan of the Series 60 operating system but I've been getting fed up with the quality of Nokia's parts. Take the 6260 which I currently own: creaky plastics and a very poor quality external speaker. Samsungs in general seem to be very overpriced as their phones seem to lack a lot of good features. The phones themselves are built to a high quality though and if you add this to Nokia's Series 60 format, we're left with a superb phone. This phone is also rumoured to have stereo mp3 playback with stereo external speakers (like one of the Motorolas). It clearly says UMTS on the front but apparently it's not 3G. I'd also like to know what material this phone is made from. It looks almost metallic?

Even if it doesn't have e preinstalled xHTML browser, there are plenty of Symbian based 3rd party browsers that you can install on this phone. But as you know this phone will have an embedded version of Macromedia Flash, so I really doubt that that phone will come without any browser. Samsung stated that they wil use FLASH for GUI, Games and interactive web browsing.

samsung finally made a great improvement. it seems to be a real useful mobile phone, after a lot of crap they've produced. oh, i start to love this brand.. i mean, look at the functions.. i have to reconsider between this phone and the sony ericsson s700. guys, which phone is better? please help me choosing the phone.. thanks!!

This could be a bit hit with the power set, if... a> they actually ship it. b> all the functions work seamlessly. mp3 / bluetooth / SynchML bravo samsung, do it right.

Any idea on what material is used to build the phone? Its got a metallic look, similiar to the old nokia 8850/8890!!!! If it is metallic then this is going to be one of the hottest phones expected out!!!!!!!

Looks like a great phone with great Spec, shame the Cam not 2.0mp though! and Does the Camera have a Macro function on it for better pics close up or at a distance like my Sharp GX30?
